One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the summer of 2012 I worked on an archeological dig team in a village near Gazipasa, Turkey. We were uncovering the 3rd or 4th century city of Antioch. We were partnered and assigned trenches, which we spent approximately 8 hours a day 5 days a week for 5 weeks. I was assigned the North side of the temple proper of the city finding various things; bones, oil lamps, coins, and a lot of rocks. Myself and a Turkish student uncovered the length of a mosaic found on site, the largest mosaic found in the region. It was sort of a moment where excitement transcended language. It's strange to realize you are the first person to see something for centuries, and caused me to think a lot about impermanence and what to value.
