ABOUT ME

I'm Kurt. I am 25 years old. I'm from a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where the summers are green, and winters are white. I've been living in my 2002 conversion van for about 4 years now, bouncing around Texas and California, finding new places to call my home.
And I love it! The minimalist lifestyle is very freeing and exciting. I love to create and learn anything and everything, from music to sewing to why the clouds make the shapes that they do. As long as I can keep traveling, create, and go to music festivals, my life will be complete.

I'm Destanye. I'm 26 years old. I'm somewhat of a novice traveler, having been to about 40 states including Alaska and Hawaii. I haven't been out of the US much but my next goal is to change that. I graduated from the University of Texas in May of 2017 with a degree in geography, so yes, I love maps and learning about new places. I've been living with this guy ^^ for a little over a year in the van and gotten a lot of perspective from it. Music festivals are the motive for many of my travels and EDM culture is what drives me to those festivals.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I hope to participate by one day surfing around the world. I love to meet new people and try to making their lives better, as I hope they will for me. Traveling without meeting people feels empty. I believe this is one of the best ways to make lifelong friendships and I also love seeing the day to day life of normal people in whatever culture I may be in.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I traveled from the upper peninsula of Michigan to Austin, TX stopping by in Chicago, to surf and again in Memphis, Tennessee. Both hosts were so wonderful and nice. That experience really opened me up to how beautiful this world is. To be welcome in a strangers home. I did some international couch surfing in Canada where I taught my host how to produce music who now has a brand new hobby, and he showed us how his method in making Kombucha!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I basically designed and built a self sustaining home on wheels (my van) that can keep me safe, that has 5 solar panels producing enough electricity to charge 4 125ah AGM Batteries that can in turn power a 500 watt AC Unit all day without needing a gasoline generator. We ended up living in this van for all of 2018 in Silicon Valley in California. It was not easy task but we made it work!
