About Me

Hello
I travelled to New Zealand where I met fellow travellers and heard about this site.
I also travelled the west coast of America and then on to meet a friend to road trip accross Canada.
I love to find out about the local culture, try the food and meet new people. I like to discover a new place on foot, find the good views and soak up the atmosphere.
I am back to Cornwall after my travels.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I would like to meet people and to get a sense of a city from a local point of view. I love finding out about the real goings on rather than doing a tourist route or tourist activities like bungee jumping.
I have heard good things about travelling this way and I am challenging myself to try new things so thought I would give it a go.
I would like to meet people who can give me some real advice about where to go and what to eat to get a sense of the city.

Interests

I am interested in keeping fit so I jog and swim. I have also recently started doing some meditation.
I love reading especially female authors. I like to watch the odd film, usually something a bit different and not mainstream. Recently I have seen Tangerine and Noble at the cinema. I also attended a documentary film festival.
Whereever I go I like to check out the local galleries and the museums too.
I like to discover a place by foot usually. I also like to try the coffee and do a bit of people watching.
I love trying the local food and drink.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - I like lots of things, mainly mainstream, a bit of classical and rock.
In the car I listen to anything from Florence and the Machine to Fleetwood Mac. The last live music I saw was at the night market in Wellington NZ.
Movies - I like things that are a bit alternative and not mainstream, things that make you think or show the human condition. I am not into blockbusters that involve lots of staged fighting.
Books, I love women authors like Marge Piercy, Sarah Waters, I am reading a Doris Lessing at the moment. I love the classics like The colour Purple and To kill a mockingbird. Recent good reads Americanah, Three Women, Ometa.
Currently reading Charlotte Gray so I like a variety.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was part of a record breaking cocoanut orchestra in Trafalga square.
That is a record breaker but it isn't amazing.
errrr. what have I done that is amazing - hopefully I have helped people through my work, that i something that I am proud of as an achievement.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach? I used to be a teacher. I can share some of my knowledge about that, also my skills in Careers Advising (Careers Counselling you may call it) I am interested how people make decisions, their journey to where they are in life, so I hope that I can have some interesting conversations about these things along the way.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Conversations, a bottle of wine or beer when I find some on the way.
I am a helpful person and I am happy to pitch in if help is needed.
Hopefully an interesting conversation and a listening ear.
Hopefully new friends will be made and I can return the favour of hosting in the UK in the future.
