About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm a nerd who values openness, compassion, and art. I like a good sense of humor, a big cup of coffee, and a walk through the city. I'm an English professor at a university in Connecticut, and planning on starting my PhD in English in the Fall. My research is mostly in queer theory and medieval British literature. I've lived mostly in New England, including New York City for many years.

I haven't traveled much using Couchsurfing, but I'd love to meet you & get to know your city!
I'm currently living in Luxembourg for a few months and will be traveling around Europe this summer.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

So far, I'm new to all this, but I've certainly hosted many friends, acquaintances and strangers in my home(s) over the years. But so far so good - I really like the feel of Couchsurfing, because there seems to be a lot of support and camaraderie on here.

Interests

I love films, books, animals, good conversation (everything from pop culture to philosophy), music (playing, singing, going to shows, listening, discussing), and theatre. I have a silly sense of humor, but I also like to talk about Big Philosophical Issues.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: A little bit of everything. My top 10: The Apartment, The Wizard of Oz, Withnail & I, Nebraska, Amadeus, They Live, Let the Right One In, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon, Jules and Jim.

My top 10: The Long Goodbye by Raymond Chandler. I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith. Ulysses by James Joyce. The Book of Margery Kempe. The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters & Seymour: An Introduction by J.D. Salinger. Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh. Youth by Joseph Conrad. The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle. Geek Love by Katherine Dunn. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I teach kids every day how to become better readers, writers + (I hope) human beings.

Teach, Learn, Share

Anything you'd like to know, and anything you'd care to teach.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm a good guest, always respectful and social. I'd love for you to show me around your city, but can take care of myself if your schedule's too busy. I'm very easy to get on with.
