About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To experience different cultures and learn from them and to create memories to look back on.

ABOUT ME

I'm currently training as a solicitor in the North East of England (near Newcastle) but would love to do something international at some stage once I'm qualified. I enjoy the work that I do in mainly housing and employment law as I know that some difference is being made when someone is able to stay in their home or receives award after having been treated unjustly by an employer.

Away from work I'm usually to be found on a tennis court which handily counters my love of food!

PHILOSOPHY

I do things I care about, I want a career that I care about and want to feel as though I am actually doing something useful.

One quote that I love is used in the Paula Radcliffe autobiography and is a very good philosophy for life- "notre plus grande gloire n'est pas de jamais tomber mais de se relever chaque fois que l'on tombe". (Our greatest glory is not to never fall but to pick ourselves up every time we fall).

There's also a poignant quote from Martin Luther King-"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter". I think it's important to be passionate about things that matter to you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment I am able to meet up for drinks. I have had the opportunity to meet up with people while abroad and hope to become more involved in the local group.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Since joining couchsurfing I spent an evening in Dubrovnik debating football, tennis, international relations and politics with 3 Croatians. I was adopted by Mirja in Zadar and became the English boomerang to her family. I then had tea with a Latvian couple in Riga.

Interests

I love tennis and am Ladies' Captain at my local club. Part of what I have enjoyed with the role is trying to keep the younger girls interested in playing and wanting to continue by involving them in the adults' sessions.

I tend not to go too long without getting itchy feet and wanting to vanish into some corner of Europe where I am usually at my happiest. Meeting up with couchsurfers for coffee and conversation makes it just right.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love a good film, with a penchant for world cinema as well as films with a good story to them. I've recently discovered the heartwarming "What's Eating Gilbert Grape".. Other favourites include Blood Diamond, The Diving Bell and Butterfly, Little Miss Sunshine and Before Sunrise.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Watched sunset in Zadar accompanied by the sound of the Sea Organ...so special.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach tennis and speak French (of an ever increasingly poor standard).

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Romania, Serbia, Spain, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

France, United Kingdom
