About Me

I'm a 22 year old student from the UK, currently studying french language on an exchange programme for a year at l'Université Laval in Québec City in Canada. I am in my third year of a Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences degree with a major in french at the University of Birmingham in the UK.
I was born in Bristol in England and moved to the countryside near a town called Stroud when I was about 2.
I attended a Waldorf Steiner School for my entire education (6-18) which was a great experience and has given me an interesting perspective on education.
Since leaving school two years ago I've worked and traveled. In 2014 I worked for six months and then spent four months traveling around Nepal, Malaysia and New Zealand. Then in 2015 I worked and travelled around the States and Canada for four months which was awesome.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Whilst on my travels in 2014, I quickly realised that the part I loved most about it was meeting new people both other travelers and local people. While in New Zealand we rented a van and traveled around that way. While it's a fantastic way to see the country and gives you a great deal of freedom I felt that we didn't get to know as many people as we could have, I think couchsurfing is a fantastic way to meet and get to know lovely people, who being locals will inevitably have a great amount of knowledge about the area. I definitely think it's the people you meet who shape you as a person and I recon the sort of people who open their homes up to travelers are the sort of people worth meeting.
On my trip to the States and Canada in 2015 was the first time I tried Couchsurfing and it was an amazing experience. I met some of the coolest, most generous, fun people I've ever come across, and found it incredible how close I could become with someone in such a short space of time!

Interests

I love singing and making music. I play the guitar and the cello (sadly neither to a very high standard!) I love reading and watching films and being outdoors. I absolutely love a good hike, so it's fantastic to be in Canada with such awesome scenery and so many beautiful national parks not far away.
My friends and family are the most important thing to me and I love spending time just hanging out. I always love making new friends.
I have just started going ice-skating, which I love but am terrible at! The uni here offers free sessions for students so there's really not excuse not to!

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy a really wide range of music. I love modern UK folk musicians such as Johnny Flynn, John Smith, Laura Marling and the oldies like The Beatles, The Kinks etc. I love a bit of Motown as I grew up listening to the likes of Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, the Supremes and Stevie Wonder.

Similarly I like a wide range of films, I wouldn't really say I like a certain genre in particular. I love a good British comedy show, like Green Wing, Spaced and Black Books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A skydive from 12,000 ft (with 45 seconds of free-fall) above a snow covered Lake Wanaka in New Zealand (I am pretty terrified of heights so this was a big deal!) The view from up there is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.

*update* Hiking the Bright Angel trail in the Grand Canyon for three days, with stunningly beautiful views and great people who we met through Couchsurfing!

Teach, Learn, Share

I love knitting and am totally happy to teach anyone who fancies learning! Also happy to teach beginner/intermediate French to anyone who wants to learn :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I enjoy a good chat, getting to know someone and their interests and stories. I'm pretty fun and love a laugh! I also love to sing and play the guitar. I also love cooking and am more than happy to cook for hosts!
