About Me

My mission as a traveler is to eat, drink, and be merry in as many different places as I can manage.

I am a fat and happy, gun-loving and truck-loving, Texas-obsessed raconteur and gambler with a love of wine, history, and culture (and not always in that order).

My philosophy for life and travel is quite simple: Matthew 22:35-40.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have slept in everything from a barn (with chickens and all!), to a hammock strung on a pier, to a mosquito-infested floor in an open-air tree-house. In some way, I enjoyed each and every experience!

Interests

Live music (especially music festivals); lots of volunteer work; college football games as often as I can get them (Hook 'em Horns and Roll Tide!); gambling (poker and blackjack).

Music, Movies, and Books

It is a cliche, but a large part of why I am a lawyer is that I was WAY too earnest and not nearly so cynical when I read To Kill a Mockingbird. I go for the great books/classics as a general matter, but lately I've been reading a lot of philosophy and economics, too.

I also love terrible movies--the sort which showed on Saturday afternoons or overnight on the FOX affiliate in Waco, Texas in the 90s (that's a specific wheelhouse, I know).

Oh, and I'll listen to anything, but tend to prefer Motown, soul and R&B, oldies, classic rock, and classic country. I'm a big opera fan and also tend to listen to a lot of the baroque masters.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Visiting the Grand Canyon for the first time.

Attending Midnight Mass at St. Peter's Basilica.

Gazing upon the sunset from camelback in Rajasthan.

Standing on a terrace atop a high-rise in Monaco drinking champagne with old friends and new ones and thinking, "life does not suck."

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm always happy to drone on about law, the history of law, and legal theory. I certainly know more about common law jurisdictions (and have visited the supreme courts of Israel, the UK, India, Cyprus, and Hong Kong), but also love comparative law (and studied law in and visited the supreme court of Switzerland to that end). If you're also a giant law nerd, let's talk!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Whatever you ask of me! Conversation and cooking are my favorite things, but I'm also handy with a screwdriver and tall enough to replace a light bulb!
