About Me
Hello! My name is Andrew, I'm a 26 year old artist/part time programmer looking to explore the world, get some good stories and make some friends along the way. Been traveling the United States since about 6 years old off and on, first with parents then on my own when I've had time. Been all over the pacific Northwest (my home at the moment) as well as 38 states in the continental US. Trying to visit every continent soon as I get a chance. I have a large background in illustration and a background in software/hacking stuff. My main interests are illustration, painting, almost any kind of artwork, music, cooking and baking, cars, offroading, hiking, anything to do with the outdoors, cyber-security, punk, trip-hop and comedy. I currently live in a student Co-operative in Eugene Oregon known as the Campbell Club. It's a giant mansion with 15 or so other people and it's an incredibly cool place. Whether there is a workshop, show or party going on there is constantly people milling about. It requires a certain amount of autonomous responsibility up to and including cooking and cleaning shifts. In my 3 years there it has been a wonderful experience full of twists and turns. I'm always to learn about other co-ops around the world and how they function as well.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on here to try to see some places that are out of the way for the normal traveler going about the world and meet some folks who may have a thing or two to say about the area. Venturing outside of the U.S is a relatively new endeavor for me so I'm looking to learn as much from as many people as possible in the course of my adventures.
Music, Movies, and Books
Damn near any kind of Punk or Trip-hop is always good. My music tastes vary wildly and I may be in the mood for some Thelonious Monk one day, Black Flag and Rancid another day, or I may just want to chill out and listen to Amon Tobin or something weird.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've organized a team of strangers and won a Hackathon for the City of Eugene, the software we developed they now use in planning and building local city infrastructure! Pretty cool.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can always teach anyone how to cook, draw or fiddle with tech related stuff if need be. I also love working on bikes and have hand built several. One of which is my prize steed, a Nishiki single speed track bike with a custom paint job. I work on cars for a living currently and also happy to help wrench on anything mechanical.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I used to cook professionally and am always happy to help prepare food with anyone, as part of my duties in my student co-op I am also responsible for internet related stuff and keeping the house clean. I love doing chores and am always ready to help if asked. I work on cars for for my day job so mechanical stuff comes pretty easy, and if it's anything tech related or related to illustration or painting I'm especially happy to help. I've also been told I can make people laugh though I don't know how true that is. I've just watched a lot of bad comedy movies.
