About Me

I wake up every eight or nine months with two questions on my mind: why am I still here? and where am I going next?

These pesky questions have gotten me into a lot of interesting situations in the past, like hitchhiking around Mexico or climbing down waterfalls in Australia. and really its these moments that I feel I'm living for. I'm not sure where I will be going next but at any given time I'm probably scheming my escape from my current situation.

In 2014 I left my cushy university life to follow my passion of traveling and working my way around the globe. I spend six months backpacking around Central America, four months hitchhiking across Canada, two months living in Barcelona, and then the next six months between Morocco, Turkey and eventually back to Spain.

Along the way I've met truly amazing people who have influenced and shaped my personality and life. I've kept in contact with most and have been focusing my recent travels of reconnecting with those in their home countries. And part of that has been about making videos of those experiences:

Couchsurfing has been amazing for me in this way as I've gotten to live vicariously though other and find out about the amazing places they've come from and are going. My time in Australia particularly was enriched by the experiences of couchsurfing and is the reason I was able to see so much while I was there. When I'm home I love to open my doors to any travelers passing so I can hear their stories and help plan my next destination.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I started Couchsurfing when I biked around Vancouver Island for 2-3 months in the summer of 2011. I used CS to meet some absolutely lovely people who were kind enough to offer me a place to rest on my trip. The bed, food and company were all exactly what I needed between hostels, boondocking and campgrounds.

In 2012 I traveled Australia for four months couchsurfing the entire way. The people I've met were all lovely, trusting people who i would love to go back and stay with again. I look forward to continuing to use CS to meet more and more people.

I've done a fair bit surfing, and a little hosting, a decent amount of traveling and eager to do more of all three. I would like to get more involved in the CS community and meet tons of amazing people along my travels. All the while spreading the word of CouchSurfing!

When I was back in Canada, I opened my couch up for the solo purpose of surfers and tried to be as good a host as possible over the summer months. I ended up hosting around 30 people a month and was so blessed to have met so many amazing people, many of which I have since visited on my own travels.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I've seen a lot of movies, way more than would be considered normal. Some great, some bad, many at least attention holding. Favs would have to be anything Wes Anderson, Ridley Scott, most Joss Whedon, a few Zach Snyder :)

Music: Currently into a lot of aussie folk, punk rock and third wave Ska, but certainly not limited to. Use to listen to a lot of classic rock and beatles. Favs would be Gorillaz (/Damon Albarn), Streetlight Manifesto, The Cat Empire

Books: I find myself picking up a book more now aday when I'm not in school. specially while traveling. I absolutely love exporing used bookstores and finding rare treasures. my favs: anything Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchet, Tolken, Sir Arther Conan Doyle, and Michael Crichton, :D

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In the summer of 2011 I hiked the West Coast Trail, one of the most amazing experience of my life. 75km of beautiful Pacific rainforest across loose pebble beaches and through moss covered boardwalks. If your on Vancouver Island and have a week or two to spare you should definitely do it.

Teach, Learn, Share

Hobbies: My friend once told me that my hobby it to have hobbies, and indeed this is true. In the last eight months alone I've taken up hydroponics, gardening, beer making, longboarding, french, fruit preserving, knitting and most recently rock climbing. The hobbies don't usually last too long, but the knowledge i get out them stays forever. If you every want to know how to pick a lock, or write a website, or give proper massages then I'm the person to ask. incidently, if you have hobbies yourself I would love to learn about them and possibly take them up :p

Cooking/Baking: while I wouldn't consider myself professional level, I certainly can say that I'm very experienced and love it with all my heart. While surfing I try to cook for my hosts as much as possible and enjoy the meal over a good wine. I love to talk about cooking with people, share recipes, learn and teach techniques. I currently have a cookbook going with all the recipes I've picked up from surfers over the years ^^

Culture: I am a sponge for strange facts and trivia and nothing fascinates me more than listening to others talk about their culture and countries. I've learnt about German nuclear disposal programs and New Zealand immigration problems and Mexican conservation movements. And eager to share and learn more!

What I Can Share with Hosts

When ever I say with hosts I always make a point to cook for them. Over the years of couchsurfing I've build up quite the recipe book of flavours from around the world. French Crepes, Italian Gnoche, Canadian Curries, Polish Perogies... and host of fusions dishes that can only come out of trying to find ingredients in a foreign grocery store :p

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, El Salvador, Germany, Guatemala, Mexico, Morocco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Poland, Turkey

Countries I’ve Lived In

Australia, Canada, Colombia, Norway, Spain, United Kingdom, United States
