A lot of people coming to Mazatlan are incredible lost about what is in here.
Mazatlan its a turistic place, you will find a lot of people that speaks english, but some nice spanish will take you farther.

There are 3 main ways to get here:
We have an airport, the bus station, and the Ferry.
Hay tres maneras de llegar:
Aeropuerto, estacion de autobuses y el ferry.

Mostly all the people that comes to Mazatlan, stays for just one day and then leave to the ferry heading to La Paz, Baja California. The ferry is close to the downtown, but not too much, you need to take a local bus or walk like 30 minutes.
Mucha gente viene solo por un dia para tomar el ferry a la Paz, el ferry esta cerca del centro historico, pero no tanto, se tiene que tomar autobus o caminar maximo unos 30 minutos, depende de que tan rapido camines.

For those that will stay longer:
You can either visit the beach and relax or; as many couchsurfers use their time for new experiences.
Para aquellos que se quieren quedar mas de un día, yo les recomiendo ir a la playa, o como cualquier viajero usar su tiempo para vivir nuevas experiencias.

What I recommend?

1- go to the market- its not too big and you can find many things like souvenirs. Close from the market is the church, and the city hall. A few blocks from there its the teather "Angela Peralta" and plazuela machado.
1-El mercado. No es muy grande pero puedes encontrar muchos recuerditos. El mercado esta en el centro de la ciudad, cerca esta la catedral y el ayuntamiento. A unas cuadras el teatro "Angela Peralta" y la plazuela machado (mis lugares favoritos).

2- There is an aquarium. Aquarium its nice: fishes, sharks, rays, octopus, etc. You will be able to see some californian sealions, and even take your picture with them.
2-Tenemos un acuario. Esta bonito, tiene muchas variedades de peces, tiburones, rayas, pulpos. Y puedes ver lobos marinos y hasta tomarte una foto con ellos.

3- Just next to the aquarium, there is the "city forest" its free and it has jaguars, deers and local pigs.
3-Justo a un lado del acuario, esta el "bosque de la ciudad", no es propiamente un bosque, pero bueno. Es gratis y puedes ver jaguares, venados cola blanca y pecaris.

4- For more free stuff you can go to the lighthouse, its a beautiful wiew from the top- but you may need good physical condition cause its a lot of stairs- (in addition its close to the ferry)
4-Mas cosas gratis, ir al faro. El faro tiene una hermosa vista desde la cima, pero considera que debes tener buena condicion, porque son muchas escaleras, y el clima es humedo y caluroso la mayor parte del año. La ventaja es que esta cerca del ferry.

5-Close to the lighthouse is "el cerro", there you can also have spectacular views of the ocean. This cerro conects the ferry, and lighthouse to the downtown.
5-Cerca del faro esta el cerro, puedes cruzarlo y disfrutar de asombrosas vistas del mar. Este cerro conecta el ferry-faro y el centro historico.

6- Walk by the beach, Mazatlan its mostly all around the beach- if you walk all in front of the beach you can see mostly what Mazatlan is about, the "malecon" starts at downtown and ends at "golden zone", so you can see the two faces of Mazatlan: downtown (quiet and cultural) and golden zone (party and turistic part).
6-Caminar por el malecon. Casi todo Mazatlan se desarrollo siguiendo la linea de costa. El malecon comienza en el centro historico y termina en la zona dorada. Con esto puedes ver las dos caras de Mazatlan, el centro (tranquilo y cultural) y la zona dorada (la parte turistica y fiestera).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

If you come in a weekend try this:
*Downtown-"Plazuela Machado" on saturdays they sell a lot of handmade crafts. Then go to "olas altas" there are many bars there, have a drink and enjoy the view.
Si vienes un fin de semana intenta esto:
*Centro historico- Los sabados se hace un mercadito en la plazuela machado de cosas hechas a mano. Despues ve a "olas altas", frente a la playa, hay muchos bares y puedes sentarte tomarte una cerveza y disfrutar la vista. Los locales prefieren el "Belmar"

*If you like to party at Golden Zone there are many places: Frogs (more like local snob bar), Sumbawa (local beach bar) and Oysters (all kind of people), they dance in all these places so if you are not a dancer better try the downtown.
*Si eres fiestero en la zona dorada hay varios lugares para bailar, el oyster es donde hay de todo tipo y puedes andar sin preocuparte. El sumbawa es como para adolescentes pero esta decorado playero y esta lindo, los domingos a veces tocan reggae. El frogs es como pop comercial, un tanto snob pero si lo tuyo es andar super arreglado, te puede gustar.

Try Ceviche and Tacos de Camaron, I personally like "F.I.S.H." at golden zone, next to ricos. But there are plenty places that sell seafood all around Mazatlan.
Lo mas tipico es el ceviche o los tacos de camaron. Restaurantes a mi me gusta el FISH en la zona dorada, pero en todos lados venden mariscos.

There is also a good fish place in between "Fishhook" next to "plaza ley vieja", every bus leaves you there and its in the mittle between golden zone and downtown.
Entre la zona dorada y el centro, cerca de la "plaza ley vieja" hay un sitio llamado "Fishhook". Esta muuy rico.

Close to DownTown there is a place called "Chayito" that sells mexican traditional food; tostadas, enchiladas, try asado.
En el centro historico, esta un lugar llamado Chayito, que venden comida mexicana, tostadas, enchiladas y el tipico platillo sinaloense es el "asado". Es papa y carne. Las enchiladas se pueden pedir de frijol o queso para los que no comen carne.

If you are walking by the beach I will go to "pinitos beach" and have a coconut.
Si estas caminando por el malecon, cerca de la playa "pinitos" venden cocos. Se los recomiendo, alli tambien venden ostiones frescos, si les gustan los ostiones vayan por ellos, pero si no los han probado les advierto que tienen un sabor y sensacion particular.

If you go to downtown at "playa sur" they sell this incredible delicious drink called "cocohorchata", i personally love it.
Si estan por "playa sur", venden "cocohorchatas" son deliciosas, es una bebida muy refrescante, y creo que solo pueden encontrarla en Mazatlan.

If your are a vegetarian go to: PuraVida (golden zone), Arabian food (downtown).
Para lugares vegetarianos, el puravida en la zona dorada y en el centro la comida arabe.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Si estoy alla, les puedo ofrecer ser su guia. De todas maneras siempre ando por el centro.

In case i CANT offer a couch, i will try to find a friend that allows you to stay, There are not many hostels, or at least i dont know any. But there are all kind of hotels in Mazatlan, so if you are in a hurry you will find one anyway.

Ahora mismo no estoy allá, si necesitan un lugar donde quedarse podría preguntar a amigos si les hacen el paro. Pero si están apresurados, hay muchos hoteles baratos!, desafortunadamente no conozco hostales, algun dia tendre que poner uno jejeje, es mi sueño.
