About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My Current mission? I'd like to learn to sing really well and have a jazz band. Indeed, I am absolutely obsessed with jazz...it's my passion. Other than that I want to find a good photo lab (maybe make my own) to develop my photography.

ABOUT ME

I wouldn't really be able to describe myself accurately because we never are very objective with ourselves but most people say I'm fun to be with. In fact my house is always full of friends. I think this comes from my Cuban heritage and the way I was brought up.
I get easily distracted from my priorities (especially studying) when friends offer to go out. I recently discovered a jazz club in Paris where we can go dance swing, bee bop, ect... called the Caveau de la Huchette so when I'm meant to study all I can think of is FUN. In other words, I'm pretty care free.
However, care free doesn't mean being unconscious. I have strong political beliefs founded on a greater solidarity amongst people and States. Although I think "world peace" is a utopian idea I do think international law has a greater role to play in the way things are going than what is actually the case. Even though most people are sceptical towards the UN and its legal effectiveness I believe that it could develop if the 5 permanent security council states stopped acting in their personal interests. Later in life I'd like to work for an international organisation specialised in humanitarian law such as Amnesty Int.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've not been part of the CS community long enough...we'll see how it builds up for me!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am a fervent adept to sleeping in the locals 'nest'.
This mainly comes from the fact that in Cuba, where I originally am from, I see tons of tourists lazying around the beach clueless to what the country really is about. For me, meeting locals is as important as the country's history because it is they who live and shape the cities I visit. Also, they know all the secret places that a guide book never reveals! My CS experience has been great so far. I hosted an Italian guy for a few nights and now my house mate and I have become friends with him...he even comes for dinner from time to time!

Interests

I love love love jazz, music in general and therefore dancing. I also like riding my bike to every where in Paris.
I like reading and poetry. Some of my favorite authors are Stephan Sweig, Chuck Pallanuk (the guy who wrote fight club), Milan Kundera, and Kafka.
I also enjoy volley ball. In England, where I studied law for the first two years, I was in the university volleyball team.
Finally, like most people, I love hanging out with my friends.

Music, Movies, and Books

WOW Music....where the hell should I start? Everything! My friend Joe asked me to list my top 7 the other day but I realised I have many many top 7 artists. If I must: The pioneers, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Chocolate Watch Band, Georges Brassens, Charles Trenet, Belle and Sebastian, Sonic Youth, Cat Power, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Gilberto Gil, The Beach Boys, LOVE, ummmm....there are many more...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

With my friends we stole bread from a posh Parisian bakery that had been thrown out at the end of the day and then we re-distributed it to anyone willing to take it. It was a great experience to feel like all that good food hadn't gone to waste. I think that this is basic civil disobedience: although I am a law student I believe that laws' exist to be broken from time to time if what you do is necessary. Only this way may we reach progress.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach you to dance salsa, rock and basic tango moves.
Could you teach me to play the guitar and/or the bass?
