I have surfed around Europe for awhile and met loads of lovely people. Now that I'm back in the state's it's time to repay the favor!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I had the opportunity to stay in Prague (Czech Republic) in the middle of February 2012. My professor and head of the department told me to go to Prague because it was a city just discovering the fun of the west after being so heavily influenced by the iron curtain.

Boy, was he right, Prague was a madhouse (at least the nightlife).

Our hostel was the only one with a bar and a concert stage inside, and hosted some of the most interesting people I had encountered during my European adventures. Because the hostel had great amenities, it had become a very popular hangout for the Czech locals to gather and experience western music and alcohol (Also, Bud light test better over there for some reason).

Anyway, one night I was stumbling back to the hostel after one of the craziest evenings of my life. At the base of the stairs into the building I stopped and looked up to see a man in his mid 50s decorated in his Czech military finest (medals, ribbons, pins, etc) standing at the top of the steps.

For one brief second we made eye contact, in that moment he and I became comrades, brothers in intoxicated euphoria. He looked at me, smiled, stood at attention and saluted. This man, decked out in his finest military attire, saluting some random American, but we both were brought together by alcohol, the cause of and solution to all of life's problems. I reciprocated enthusiastically and we both had a laugh and went on our ways.
