Overview
About Me
I am a 24-year old student and want to be a journalist when I grow up. Yet until then, traveling will have to satisfy my thirst for new places and new faces! Being only 24, I realize my share of life experience is not that big. Because (or: in spite) of that I am curious about all the different things that people do, so I'm an easy victim: you can basically propose any crazy plan to me and I'll at least consider it.
Despite my love for meeting foreign things, I'm still very much a Dutchie: I can't help but feel very at home in the Netherlands, in the midst of all of its quirks and canals.
Of course, it has its downsides to - I constantly live with the fear of being too blunt to foreigners. Who are never blunt enough to tell me I've been blunt, so I keep on second-guessing forever...
Interests
Myself, I'm especially interested in music, politics, history and languages (I am currently teaching myself Serbocroatian and Turkish and I am not intending to stop there).
In the meantime, I've been collecting experiences big and small: if you would like to know how it is to live as a guide in a French château, or how fast you can hitchhike from Amsterdam to Istanbul, I'm your man. Or we could keep it simple and close to the heart - I could tell you how it is to grow up in my small Dutch hometown, and I'll ask you about yours.
By the way, here are my facebook and trustroot profiles so you'll know I'm a real person: https://www.facebook.com/loic.michels.9/

Music, Movies, and Books
I used to be an enormous music aficionado - under the pressure of adult life and irresponsible music consumption, this passion has gone underground, but I still harbour a deep appreciation for many different styles of music: http://www.last.fm/user/Loic-M
I have also taken up the habit to go to cinema quite often! I don't have a deep film-culture, but I can tell you all about recent films that I've seen and have enthralled me: La Hija, The Lost Daughter, Dogtooth, Ouistreham...
The same goes for literature. Even though I read regularly, I don't have a very extensive culture (I tend to find the 'classics' a bit dull to be fully and completely frank). I would love to discuss random novels that I've recently read, however, like Nada by Carmen Laforêt or Die Wand of Marlen Haushofer, or Isabel Allende.
Teach, Learn, Share
Three of my favorite things!
The list of things I want to learn keeps on growing every day. It now includes things like:
- Watercolour painting
- DIY - deskmaking
- Filmmaking
- Writing
- Playing the trumpet
- Psycho-analyzing my conversational partner
- Cooking more than five dishes
And much more
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can cook one a vegetarian lasagna or tell language jokes, but I think my greatest asset is: I'm calm, easy-going and flexible.
