About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Arriving in my new hometown! ;-)

ABOUT ME

People say I´m a nice guy and at least I believe that too. I grew up in a small village in the middle of Bavaria, Gelbelsee. After my Abitur and my military service I moved to Augsburg and dived into the world of physics. My diploma thesis was about plasma physics and after that I joined the field of nano-physics, investigated carbon nanotubes and just finished my PhD. And after a short stop at the University of Munich I work now as a patent engineer in Paderborn, a quite different topic but nontheless very exciting.
So, these are the facts of my life.
I always tried to look beyond the "hard" physics. So my "non-physical" minor became philosophy. I like to think about the life and the ways to live in it and I try to be open-minded for the opinions and knowledge of other people.
I like running and in 2009 I finished my first marathon in Munich. It was a very exciting moment, when I reached the Olymic Stadium and saw my girlfriend in the crowd.
I moved to Paderborn in the end of June and I hope that couchsurfing is a good possibility to meet new people.
I really like funny movies and TV series, especially when they are flavoured with a tip of irony (like the Simpsons). I like to laugh and even in my job I try not to be too serious (as long as possible, of course).
People very often underestimate my real age. But I´m not sad about that. Overestimation would be much worse. And so I have a perfect match between body an mind. ;-)

PHILOSOPHY

I believe, that everything that happens, has a reason. Maybe you can´t realize this reason immediately, but if you look back (in a quiet moment) you can see YOUR way, that led you to the point, where you standing right now. And if you have an obstacle that you can´t overcome, don´t panic, maybe it is not the time.
I try to enjoy my life and to grow and get new experiences.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

At least I had no direct couchsurfing experiences at all. But my girlfriend tried CS during her US-trip and was very ethusiastic about that. So I decided to offer my (brand-new) couch for this great project!

Interests

First of all: my biggest passion is reading. I read books as long as I can remember. The spectrum reaches from philosophy over thriller to science fiction (especially "Perry Rhodan"!). If I have the time, I go running, and I want to join a gym in the next weeks. I like sports at all. Soccer (playing and watching) is my personal favourite. Some more hobbies are movies, cooking and whiskey.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One of the most amazing things I have done in my life was my walk on the "Camino de Santiago". Even if I just did the last 150km it was a great experience (and not only because I met my girlfriend there). And if I ever get the chance, I want to repeat that!

Teach, Learn, Share

Naturally I am an expert in nanophysics. But if anybody is interested in the more sophisticated parts of physics (cosmology, theory of relativity, quantum physics), I can teach even that.
