About Me

Hi!

I've been traveling since June 30. I left the States for Costa Rica to celebrate my 40th birthday in a fabulous solo trip and spent three months there surrounded by mindblowing beauty of every sort. Then off to London to visit my best friend for his birthday and to celebrate our ten years of friendship. I stayed in London longer than expected and now it's time for some beauty and deliciousness in Spain! Want to have fun?

I'm energetic and passionate and love living in the moment. I'm obsessed with trees, trampolines, and trains. I love plants and people and potlucks, sharing food, and laughter. I love wigs and costumes and dressing up but I probably won't have my wig collection with me for a bit. :(

I walk for pleasure, ride bikes for transportation, buses for emergencies, and trains for adventure. I love books, reading out loud and being read to, writing: fiction and non. I LOVE sending (and receiving) postcards even to people in the same town.

I'm trying to complete one of three books that I've started. I've started more... but they're on the shelf. Somewhere. Maybe I'll do National Novel Writing Month in November! Want to?

I come up with ideas allllll the time. I like solving problems and am working on a public transportation start-up because I adore public transportation and think it needs to be phenomenal and accessible and reliable for all instead of a mediocre last resort.

I have moved a lot and don't like staying in the same place. My friends and family are scattered around the world and I like having the flexibility to visit them. Also I'm kind of bad at looking at the camera but I'm not shifty in person!!

I lived in New Orleans for the past five years so many of my recent pictures are colorful with wigs and costumes. I'm sometimes a night owl and a morning person at the same time.

I hope we will have the chance to meet and have a fabulous time together!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I WOULD accept guests if I had a full-time, private house but that's not in the cards for me. I love moving and seeing new things too much to stay in a place long enough to buy a couch. Or a bed. Or a skillet.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've mostly been a couchsurfing host rather than surfer. At my dreamiest house in DC we hosted about 150 couchsurfers! It was sooo fun and I'm still friends with a bunch of the people I've met through this amazing site and excited to meet more. In 2008, I couchsurfed in Portland for three weeks to attend the Towards Carfree Cities Conference and ride bikes and meet charming people.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Got the city council and mayor of Washington, DC to go car-free for a day for an initiative I was organizing. Moved across the country a couple of times by train and lived without a car since 2001 and without a license since 2007 (though getting a license eventually)...

Started the Breakfast House in New Orleans with 3x a week breakfast party for 1.5 years. Let's do this everywhere!

Teach, Learn, Share

A friend and I started a 3x a week breakfast potluck in New Orleans so friends could get together for food, conversation, coffee and a good time before going to work. It helped several people become "morning people" and gave us the chance to turn work into something that happened after and before other fun, and to wake up for fun first, work after, more fun later. YAY

What I Can Share with Hosts

Some pretty funny stories from a lifetime of spontaneous moving and bad / hilarious decisions.
