About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To travel as much as I can during my year in Austria. I get a good bit of free time and I don't have too many expenses, so I can devote the majority of my funds to travel!

ABOUT ME

After many, many years in school, I decided to turn my life upside-down and move to Austria for a year to work as an au pair. I thought I would be running around Europe travelling whenever possible--which I do--but I'm really enjoying just being here and soaking in life here. Naturally, having studied music and theology, I enjoy talking about both subjects as well as how they intersect. I enjoy learning new things from people, too--the fire of passion in someone who has developed an expertise in something is really cool to see.

PHILOSOPHY

One step at a time. Enjoy where you are now, and stop obsessing about what's coming next--try to grow in this present moment.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I can't host, unfortunately, but I love getting to know people, and would love to do that by meeting people who are coming through my area. (And naturally as a visitor, too.)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Through CS, I've tagged along with my sister and met some people, but I've done lots of general homestays. When I graduated from college, I drove my car back from Ohio to California instead of shipping it back and flying home, and I stayed with friends (and friends of friends) along the way, and loved it! I got to experience new places through the eyes of locals, and it certainly broke up the monotony of travelling by myself. I've always been intimidated by travelling alone, partly because I'm such an extrovert, so the idea of meeting new people in new places is really exciting.

Interests

Music, obviously, and theology. I love languages--I speak English and Korean fluently, and German, French, and Spanish to varying levels. I really enjoy linguistic phonetics (is that weird?) and I think it's exciting to learn how to pronounce things in different languages. (Part of that comes from learning phonetics for singing, because even if I don't speak a language, I better sound like I can when I'm singing!) I don't drink much, but when I do, I like to drink good-quality alcohol. I'm sort of a foodie, and I definitely like seeing how food can express a culture. Back at home I like to go to the beach when it's cool out and go to Disneyland--I had an annual pass for a few years.

Music, Movies, and Books

I've been rereading a lot of old children's classics, like The Secret Garden and the like, as well as some literature classics as well. My tastes are pretty varied in movies, but I won't touch horror movies with a twenty-foot pole. Music-wise, I tend to be kind of picky, but I love classical and jazz, and some random pop stuff. Unfortunately my enjoyment of some music on the radio is hindered by my study of vocal technique, but I love hearing real artistry in pop music.
