About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Cheating death. So far, so good!

ABOUT ME

I am a human male. My 6'5" stature is compensated by always having my head in the clouds as a result. People tell me I'm a good listener or something, I dunno, I wasn't really paying attention. Hey, did you ever watch a movie with an actor in it who you're sure you saw in something else, but can't quite figure it out? I know. I always know. I have an uncanny knowledge of pop culture and a possibly aggravating tendency to quote from it. I also deconstruct movie as I watch them, sorry about that. My sense of humour has been described as sensible and humorous, in addition to batshit crazy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Every couchsurfing experience I've had thus far has been amazing; both hosting and being hosted. I hope I can do my part to keep that winning streak.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Incredibly positive so far. I first couchsurfed during my travels in Canada, and it made me fully realise that it's a lot more than just a roof over your head. Every trip I've undertaken since has been inextricably bound to couchsurfing.

Interests

Wide-ranging, plentiful and fleeting. A conversation without stream of consciousness and free association is not one I would want to have bunnyrabbit.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favourite book is The Catcher In The Rye. Read it first when I was 14 and having recently reread it, oh God yes. Authors I enjoy include Charles Stross, David Foster Wallace, Chuck Palahniuk, George R.R. Martin, Thomas Pynchon, David Sedaris, Michael Marshall Smith, William Gibson, Neal Stephenson, Arthur C. Clarke, Philip K. Dick, Michael Crichton, Neil Gaiman, Kurt Vonnegut, Cory Doctorow and Robert Heinlein (I'm a sci-fi buff, can you tell?).

As movies go, I love anything by the Anderson brothers. Paul Thomas and Wes. They're brothers, right? Talent like that runs in families. Same for the Coen brothers. My favourite movie is American Psycho, but don't hold that against me.

Music-wise, I feverishly enjoy movie soundtracks and otherwise instrumental music. Some of the stuff I listen to can get quite esoteric, like Susumu Yokota, Dabrye, Amon Tobin, Espers, Boards of Canada, Trentemöller, Bonobo, Boy Robot, Moderat, Robert Wyatt, Deaf Center and Thievery Corporation. I'm also a child of the 80s, so The Smiths, Talking Heads and David Bowie always squint my ears.

I'm a PC gamer and I professionally write about games. There's proof of that at my blog: http://playthroughline.com.
