À propos de moi

NOTE:
Currently not available for hosting as we're away in Johannesburg, East London and Cape Town for the next few weeks for business! SORRY!

I grew up in a small town in South Africa, moved to a large city when in high school, then escaped to a small town to study at university. After that, I travelled to the USA for a year, where I worked as an au pair in Washington, DC... I came back to South Africa and started an I.T. company which I ran with a partner for 14 years... then I decided to go back to university and change direction in 2012.
I've just completed an Internship for my Master's Degree in Counselling Psychology... I love meeting people and my boyfriend, Steve, has introduced me to the joys of travelling, seeing new places, experiencing new things and broadening my geographical horizons. We travel together, so all our references are on his profile at https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/steve_collins
I love being outdoors, trail running, hiking and sightseeing and I love being indoors, discussing life, the universe and everything over wine or lattés, watching movies, reading books, and doing all sorts of crafts and hobbies.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

Steve (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/steve_collins) and I have travelled together quite a lot, but when we started out, we didn't really get to meet anyone who lived in the places we've travelled to. We would love to meet people who live in the countries we visit and get to experience some of the secret local places, to meet the people who live in and love the places we go to and to get more of a local view of things!

In Sweden, Norway and Rotterdam, we had the most fantastic hosts and they gave us some idea of how to be great hosts ourselves. As hosts, we'd like to provide a safe, comfortable, clean and friendly place for people to stay with as much or as little interaction from us as they'd prefer. Sometimes, we'll be busy with work and won't be available to be as sociable as at other times and we also know that some guests will like socialising and others will prefer to just do their own thing. We also know that most people are on couchsurfing because it's a cheaper way to travel and stretch your money - but we'd like the opportunity to at least get to know a little about the places our guests come from and what it's like to live there and share a little cultural exchange. We don't ask or expect anything else in return for your stay with us!
:)

Centres d'intérêt

Travelling, obviously, reading, running, hiking, socialising, movies (especially fantasy and sci-fi), real conversations with genuine people, learning new things, gadgets and technology...
Although we're in our early 40's, we're still in our 20's on the inside, very active and fun-loving.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Favourite books: Lord of the Rings is my absolute favourite... too many to list, because I'll read just about anything. I love fantasy and science-fiction most of all, but also dystopian novels like Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze Runner etc. Because I've been studying, I've developed a taste for reading real-life books lately - self-improvement (because of psychology!) and non-fiction books - I'm not a fan of history books though...
Favourite movies: Star Wars, old 80's and 90's movies like Some Kind of Wonderful, Breakfast Club etc... So I Married an Axe Murderer is one of my favourites!
Series: Breaking Bad, Dexter, The Fringe, How I Met Your Mother, Friends, Ray Donovan, Covert Affairs, Revenge, Absolutely Fabulous, Blackadder, Bones, The Closer, Eureka, Haven, Heroes, House, The Mentalist, Law and Order, QI
Music: Rock, Alternative rock... not a fan of Opera or Jazz...
Comedians: I LOVE stand-up comedy - Eddie Izzard, Dara o'Briain, Jimmy Carr, Alan Davies, Michael McIntyre, Chris Rock, John Bishop, Seinfeld, Billy Connolly

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

My best day ever was a hike in Chamonix up to Montenvers, to the Ice Cave in the Glacier, Mer de Glace... it was beautiful and I had the best company!
One amazing thing I've done is to change direction in my life and go back to university in my 30's to do something that inspires me and that I'm passionate about - counselling and helping people to find their own potential!

Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes

We're both a wealth of useless information - also some useful information, haha! :)
