ABOUT ME
Hey! My name is Gavin. I have 10 toes, 3 eyes and can write BOB backwards like most people.
I'm not the most talkative of people. BUT I enjoy talking. I don't excel at small talk but once I get going on something I've been known to talk throughout the night. I aim to be more open minded to new ideas and listening before offering counter arguments
I'm not really into the standard traditional established way of educating people. BUT I love learning. So far I've been studying at Open university, working part time and studying Chinese. So just maybe I'll have time to host people.
Well that's all I have to say for now. I might re-edit it sometime when I have more things I want to share :). Please feel free to message me!
PHILOSOPHY
Determinist with an existential dilemma. I wish to be able to live for the present and the future without having to choose between a hedonistic life style or a rat racer who is constantly working for a better tomorrow who never gets to live.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've hosted variety of people over the last few years in Beijing. Now that I am back in the Geneva area I am currently not able to host people. Hopefully I soon will.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
positively good.
Interests
I spent 3 years and a bit living in China so it is somewhat of an obsession of mine. Otherwise I am seriously interested in ethics and surely other things. I like to be introduced to new ideas and concepts. I think my interests are to broad to be summed up in a little box. I think there should be a box for what I'm not interested in. I believe that would be more interesting.
- ethics
- boxing
- mathematics
Music, Movies, and Books
Not to sure where to start. I enjoy a variety of different musics and movies: Electronic/Techno music is a big part of my playlists as well as hip hop (Nujabes). I enjoy discovering new Genres of music.
While reading I especially like fiction and fantasy. I use to be an extreme reader before I was introduced to a computer. My first major books must have been the Lord of the Rings trilogy, at the age of 8, after I complained my dad was reading to slowly. Although recently I haven't been caught reading anything. Maybe I will buy an e-reader so I can walk and read simultaneously (I bought the e-reader.. still not reading. DAMMIT).
As to movies I enjoy them occasionally although I find most movies to predictable. In fact recently rather too occaionally. They follow a repetitive trend I find wearisome. So I'm really looking to watch some different movies.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
This is a hard question. I probably have done amazing things, which I don't remember. The problem is I do not always associate amazing sights or things I have done to the positive feeling that one might associate with it. My most amazing feelings would probably be mostly mental and could not be described by an event or an action. Some ideas I have discovered, links and correlations. Epiphanies about the mechanics of the functioning of our reality had me more amazed than any other action or sight. I find these feelings especially when thinking about or discussing philosophy. I also find myself with these feelings while working in mathematics even though the concepts and theories I have been introduced to are fairly simple.
Teach, Learn, Share
I love to share advice and help others, although I don't think i have that much to teach in contrast to what I have left to learn.
