About Me

I love to travel and try new foods and new experiences. I am a very considerate and clean person and love meeting new people. I am a writer and educator with a PhD in English with a focus on fiction writing, usually related to themes of family, identity, and spirituality.

My husband, Todd, who I most often travel with, is a graphic designer and musician who has played punk rock since he was 14 years old.

We have been together almost 20 years!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

We love experiencing diverse places from a local perspective and learning about the culture and history. Couchsurfing people are some of the most wonderful people we've ever met.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I stayed at the Ant Hill Cooperative in Rochester and met some amazing people there. I also couch surfed in New York City with my mom. Todd and I have hosted couch surfers in the past and love meeting new people!

Music, Movies, and Books

We are always open to learn what you love! We like to check out all sorts of recommendations.

MUSIC
We have diverse tastes in music, including rock, soul, and jazz. First Aid Kit is my favorite band and indie/folk rock is my favorite genre. Todd is an avid punk rocker. We love going to local shows and learning about local music.

BOOKS
I love literary fiction and memoir. Some of my favorites are White Oleander by Janet Fitch, anything by Louise Erdrich, and Toni Morrison. Todd gravitates toward biographies, especially in music or comedy.

MOVIES
We enjoy thoughtful films as well as feel-good flicks. We also love interesting documentaries, usually about people who are passionate about what they do and have carved out their own path. One favorite is the Bones Brigade.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hangliding on the beach in California!

Teach, Learn, Share

I am always open to connect and share with one another! What most interests me are the often surprising intersections of our common experiences across our lived experiences and cultures. These are things we can only get to know by being open, authentic, and non-judgmental across diverse interests and experiences.

As a writer/scholar, my interests tend to be in the greater American Southwest and other border cultures, specifically culture, identity, gender/sexuality, family relationships, spirituality, creativity/art-making, holistic healing, and connection to the natural environment.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I have a background in journalism and a career teaching writing/English in adult education, with a growing interest in arts organizing. I love discussing creativity, mental and holistic health and wellness, and all things culture, such as history and creativity.

Todd is very knowledgeable about music.

We also enjoy food and cooking!
