Overview
About Me
I've just moved to Beijing from Manchester, England. Its a dynamic place - as frustrating as is it brilliant ... and the food is SO.DAMN.GOOD. I'm always keen to explore and meet people (.... when it isn't -15oc outside). There's no where quite like China!
I feel like I don't really stop and I'm bouncing(//drifting) from place to place - I've been pretty lucky and I'm thankful for the experiences I've had. Long may they continue. I love spending time in cities because of the energy - where environment and people collide. Perfect for people-watching.
I'm easy-going and adventurous, always happy to have new experiences, meet people and hang out, but just as content chilling on my own, usually with a book nearby - the trademark of an only child.
I like to walk a lot - on the beach, in the city or up some mountains. I've played football ever since I can remember but I'm not actually that skilled, I just love a kick-a-bout. I tried archery recently and LOVED it - who knew it was so meditative!? I'm a habitual yogi and love a good stretch .Also, very keen to get into outdoor swimming at some point. I've got into the habit of blasting cold water when I shower so .... one assumes I would enjoy it?
I love going out and dancing - most genres suits me fine. I'm not a huge drinker but love a party - djs or live music is always a win.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
A traveller along the way gave me the heads up about Couchsurfing and I was sold! It truly is a special place on the internet and I'm sure the reason behind many friendships ... and truth be told, I have FOMO and just want to be a part of that :P
I want to make friends with folk from all around the world and walks of life, have decent chats, stay in cool places and trade wise words.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm a book worm. I try to read 40 books a year and become quite obsessive in documenting each book into my diary. I love long form non fiction/journalism - so please do recommend your best essays/story collections! This year I am trying to diversify the authors I read (sorry, Joan Didion, you will have to wait).
Again, please recommend your favourite non-UK/US authors! ...
I write for fun - needlessly documenting sometimes meaningless interactions.
My music taste - its pretty hyperactive and changes from month to month. I make a monthly playlist my poor friends tire of me promoting. In summer I watched the Rolling Stones play London and it was straight up bliss. Always down to go to a gig.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
There's been a fair bit of silliness these past few years. I am very blessed and hope to never forget all the mishigas. Recently, hiking the Great Wall was incredible. Heads up, they don't call it the GREAT Wall for nothing.... the Qin Dynasty really did know what they were doing.
Also, forever in my heart will be the time my girlfriends and I were guests of honour at a 'nat' ceremony in Myanmar.
Teach, Learn, Share
I've taught English to adults before. I'm not formally qualified but for sure can help if you want to brush up. Also, I'm tuned into world affairs so down to give a State of the Nation if needs be.
What I Can Share with Hosts
In China, I'm learning Mandarin - it's difficult but it's a productive task to focus on and suppose good for my brain. I can teach the very basics .... but we'll most likely struggle along together!
