About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Travel the world, spread love through music. Make friends from many different countries. Play music on every continent. Study, absorb and appreciate all of the music and art from the world's cultures. Become a full-time performance-artist.

ABOUT ME

Music is my life. It has given me everything I have. It fills my days and nights with purpose. I follow the music as it takes me around the world. I have always thought of myself as an artist, and never found any interest in pursuing a career in any kind of industry that didn't involve creative personal expression. Always a rebel, distrustful of authority, disgusted by the state of our society and the culture of globalization. The American dream makes me sick. Organized religion is a plague. Through studying history I have realized that white-European culture spread like a disease, eradicating diverse native cultures and suppressing ancient values, languages and spiritual beliefs; all the while settling in with a system of society that encourages mass production and the distribution of conformity and consumption, thereby making the world what it is today: "Globalized." The world is fucked up. Yada yada. These are my views.

PHILOSOPHY

"All my life, all I wanted was music." -Bill Tapia, 101 yrs. old and still performing live as one of the greatest jazz/ukulele musicians of the 20th Century.

At this point in my life I am most interested in establishing an international community of radical artists, dramatic poets, spiritual musicians and wayward soothsayers which someday will gather to live prosperously in a golden age of Dionysian intellectual conception.

I often think that, when I die and pass away, I want to know that I have left something good in the world to be remembered by.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am open to welcoming strangers into my home to do nothing more then spend some quality time with fellow human beings and give them something interesting to do in a foreign town and to share in the act of getting together under the assumption that everyone, everywhere beats through life to the same basic rhythm and sweats under the same sun everyday on this planet and that the best way we can counter-act the effects of this "all-global fully-infused modern capitalistic society" is to take advantage of the accessibility to one another which this provides and strive toward creating a planetary community of harmony through the acceptance and preservation of cultural differences.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have spent a fair chunk on time on the road as a vagabonding musician while traveling with the Buckys and occasional other assemblances of zany musicians. Probably the most enriching moments of my life have been spent far from home and it has been through many of these experiences that I have come to appreciate the vitality of person-person to contact across the landscape and the necessity of having friends to call on in many cities across the world.

Since joining up about a year ago I have hosted a lot of surfers at my house, especially this last summer, when I was getting as many as three requests a day. Overall the result has been good times and a slew of insight into the nature of the bond between like-minded humans across state, country and cultural lines.

Interests

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I lived in Bahia, Brazil for six weeks and became a part of a neighborhood in the city of Salvador known as Liberdade which is the home of the greatest Afro-Bloco on the planet, Ile Aiye, and made innumerable friends and deep connections with people whose culture is far removed from my own and whose language and ancestry is separate from mine and I knew them on their own terms and in their own language and forged some amazing cross-cultural bonds, all the while hanging in a 'hood that most white tourists are afraid to go to...

Teach, Learn, Share

Wow. This is a good idea! There is so much shit that I need to learn from you people! Ah, shit I don't know what I could teach...maybe I could teach about how to sit back and smile serenely about the sublime peculiarity and whimsical unpredictability of life.

Oh, and I can show you some chords on any number of string/mallet instruments, and then we could make music together.
