About Me

I love books, music, cooking, and have lived in different countries - Germany, the US, New Zealand, Ireland, England. Besides that, I love travelling, discovering new places and meeting new people!

Currently, I am doing a PhD in the field of postcolonial literature at the university of York, researching the idea of homecoming and return migration in Pacific Literature and Literature from South Asia.

I joined CS in 2009, and had a joined profile with a friend for the past years, but have decided to create my own one now - that's why I don't have many references yet for my new profile. If you would like to look at my friend's profile (who kept the one we had together) you can find it here: https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/georg_mohr

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I enjoy meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds, sharing stories and experiences, and exchanging recepies for traditional dishes and travelling in a way that allowes me to meet local people! During my travels, I received so much hospitality and support from other people - and hosting travellers through couchsurfing is a way for me to give something back!

Interests

I love books, especially postcolonial literature, but can get very interested in pretty much anything! Same goes for music - I play clarinet and love classical music and Jazz music, but I am very open to recommendations and enjoy being introduced to different bands, composers etc. I also love rowing - though I am taking a bit of a break from it at the moment, because I need to get my first PhD-chapter done...

Music, Movies, and Books

Hard to say - it changes...
But among them are:
Music: classical music, Jazz, Irish music
Movies: anything directed by Ken Loach, The Lord of the Rings, Mary Poppins
Books: this really changes from week to week, depending on what I am currently reading - at the moment: A God in every Stone (Kamila Shamsie), The Satanic Verses (Salman Rushdie), Imaginary Homelands (Rushdie), The Homecoming (Franz Kafka)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Staying over night on a mountain summit on the Southern Alps in New Zealand, to see the sunrise - it was simply amazing!

Teach, Learn, Share

teach: I can teach you how to cook some traditional German food, how to juggle three objects, or how to play the clarinet
learn: I am always interested in learning something from other people - especially if it is related to literature, art history or cooking
share: happy to share my experience of living in different countries and cultures, of what it is like to do a PhD, or some good books

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am happy to share my experience with others - for example about living in different cultures and countries, or about what it is like to do a PhD. But I am also happy to share my language skills, or cooking skills!

Countries I’ve Visited
