About Me
Difficult to complete this, but I want to up my completion percentage XD
I'm curious, friendly, looking to make friends in Yorkshire now I have moved back to England.
Not looking for romance in particular. Everyone seems to be in serious relationships back home in Blighty, and I feel way more of a "spinster" here than I did in my previous home, Berlin. It's awkward that a lot of people assume I'm on the hunt for lurve - that said, wouldn't want to look a gift horse in the mouth and I swing both ways ;)
So, queer, thoughtful, sensitive, fun but intense, of the alternative slightly hipster persuasion. But generally friendly, open and curious.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To make friends in new area of residence, Yorkshire.
Visiting West Bengal for one month and would like to make a couple of new friends in Kolkata (last year)
Please message me if you wanna meet up at the weekend in September time (not any more :) )
Music, Movies, and Books
Reggaeton, dancehall, hop hop, trip hop, electroswing, rocknroll, calypso, drumnbass, blue grass, country and folk, classical, and basically everything that isn't techno, but even so I like looping and fun things on synths. Just not club-techno.
I like movies which are imaginative in plot and theme. So lots of stuff from Hollywood is a bit unimaginative/copying the oldies but using 3D or CGI to make it sexier - I don't really care for this.
Examples of movies I love off the top of my head: Misery, KKKG (I know very little Bollywood, so am perhaps less picky about original story lines in Indian Film :P ), the Bourne series, the Royal Tenenbaums, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, Muriel's Wedding, My Neighbour Totoro - and also Ponyo, Princess Mononoke, and Kiki's Delivery Service, Felidae, and so many more.
Books: The Plumed Serpent, The English Teacher (and anything by Narayan), Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit (and everything by Jeanette Winterson), Julius Caesar, Twelfth Night, and Pericles Prince of Tyre, Annihilation of Caste, Brave New World, The Moor's Last Sigh, The Satanic Verses, and the Midnight's Children (though there is something frightening about Rushdie), Great Expectations, Maurice, and also many more.
I generally find it hard not to enjoy cultural products - I nearly always find everything interesting... Things that I like to indulge in are usually Romantic - as in fantastical like Harry Potter, poetry, or D H Lawrence.
I love all art that is a direct response to nature.
Sometimes I look back at this list and think it looks wanky. But then I remember that there is so much diversity in interest in the world, that maybe it does help to have a bit of a snapshot of someone's cultural haunts and skeletons.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One is not enough for anyone, I don't think - we are all doing amazing things all the time. Mine are not so impressive or exciting, here are 3:
Supported a kid with low self-esteem through a year of English language learning and helped her become more positive, autonomous, and pass her exams.
Carried the sun-bleached spine of a cow from the desert hillsides of Extremadura, Spain everywhere I have lived ever since.
Brought my Russian cat from Berlin to England by hook, crook, many trains, a taxi, and a ride. It was exhausting, I had to run from Paris Gare du Nord to Gare de L'est with a cat carrier rucksack on my shoulders. And then pretend it was a normal rucksack on the train because I forgot to buy the pet travel ticket.
