About Me

PHILOSOPHY

I have an awe & curiousity about the world (natural & constructed) and of its people & their histories. There's so much to learn from and about others, the world and myself. Another philosophy, or virtue or guide, that'€™s important to me is kindness.

I care about environment, sustainability & climate change issues and am interested in seeing how communities live & adapt given their challenges. Although I enjoy being on a beach, and am a sun-worshipper, I like to venture beyond tourist hotspots and experience the daily grind of a place, local people and their perspectives. I am also drawn to the land and its flora and fauna. I've not done a huge amount of travelling so I consider it a blessing and privilege when I do.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I joined CS when I was planning to go travelling but that vacation didn’t happen, so I’ve not had a chance to actually ‘surf’. Instead, I’ve met some great people in my own community since joining, people who live here temporarily for school or work, or have lived here for a long while. I’ve joined CS picnics and meetups and gone camping with other local CSers. I look forward to meeting new CSers soon, now that my vacation plans are coming together!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I haven't done much actual Couchsurfing (yet) but have met up with local folks for potlucks, swimming and group camping. I love traveling but just haven't made as much time for it in the past few years, but I hope to change that soon.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music. I have an eclectic taste in music. I play violin, and I love most jazz, gypsy & Eastern European music, Latin, tango, Afro-Cuban, experimental, indie, folk, gospel & soul.
I enjoy listening (or taking part in) live music. I also love silence, and the €˜music that goes on when you really tune in to it, particulary in nature but in urban environments too.
I love independent films, poetic films, documentary films. I'€™ve watched a lot of films about toxic chemicals, for example. I grew up watching a lot of foreign films, particularly dark, European films. ;) But I appreciate art that can walk that edge, offer many facets of an issue; if it is dark or provoking, I do want to see hope somewhere in there.
I love books ~ non-fiction, fiction, poetry... I often have 50 books out from the library at one time. One hat I've worn is that of a bookbinder, so I've spend a lot of time with the actual objects. Trying always to make more time for reading.
