About Me

Hi! I am Louise.
I lived for two years in Ghent (Belgium) to study a bachelor in History and then I decided to go to Sevilla (Spain) to enjoy a year abroad as an erasmus student. I came back for one year to Ghent to finish my master in History and then I started another master in Maastricht (Netherlands), this time in European Studies. So that's where I'm at now.
As Belgium is very small, during weekends I have travelled around a lot (often quite spontaneous) to nearby places in France, Germany and the Netherlands (like Zeeland, Paris, Lille, Amsterdam, Aachen, Maastricht, etc.).
In my free time I am active at the European Youth Parliament. I am not really sportsmanlike (in terms of sporting every day and competitiveness), but I definitely like cycling, hiking, mountain climbing and canoeing in my free time. I like music, books and films/series, but when those topics are raised in a conversation, it turns out I don't know a lot about them :p Also, I have played djembe for 6 years and I am still fond of it! And I can cook (important detail ;) )
Above all, i am a very open person, enjoying to get to know new people and their stories and interests and about their favorite places in their region.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

If I have to choose between hotel, hostel, airbnb, bnb, camping, etc. or couchsurfing, I would opt for the latter, just because I think it is great to be in another country while meeting people who are open to host me. I think the idea is just great! I am always curious to how people end up in certain places and about their stories. I am always in to discover their city together.

Interests

Recently, I followed a two-week training course on international journalism in Jerusalem, which turned out to be more of a storytelling course, but it was really great! It really fits me well, as I am an extremely interested person, even in the smallest stories people have to tell. I started to like the idea very much of traveling around to find interesting stories (which requires a bit of research before you leave, but very rewarding!)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once, I was in Barcelona with two friends of mine, one from Vienna (Austria) and one from Sevilla (Spain) and we stayed with a Brazilian guy we met in Budapest. Me and my two friends were up for a pub-crawl but we arrived too late. kind of disappointed that we couldn't participate anymore we texted the Brazilian guy and asked if we would hang out together that night. He said he was working, but then a bit later, he texted: where are you now? Stay there, I will be there in 10 minutes. All in a sudden the Brazilian guy arrived on a bike with a three-seet-car in the back (one of those tourist attractions for moving around in Barcelona). That appeared to be his holiday job! He said: get in and let's go! While putting on some music, he drove us around Barcelona from bar to bar and we went to the beach after we bought some drinks from the night shop. We had the greatest night ever! (luckily we missed the pub-crawl ;) )
