Overview
About Me
Please read completely.
I'm a widow with two grown children, grandchild, enjoys traveling via AMTRAK preferably. I'm originally from Washington, D.C. My parents, from France & Hungary, came to USA, father being chef to first American ambassador to the Soviet Union & France during WWII.
I currently live in Portland, ME 04102, visiting my adult children & grandchild in the Chicago, IL Area. I'm also a French citizen & have traveled abroad to Europe & No. & East Africa, Russia, Canada, Mexico & Belize more than one occasion in my life.
I'm actively involved with various volunteer organizations, such as Social, Environmental Justice, animal rights, Civil Rights, ME Citizens for Clean Elections, Peace Movement and for universal, "single payer"health care for everyone in the US and volunteer tutor with ESL literacy programs for immigrants, refugees & their children. ***I have a small apartment only 1 small couch. I can only host 1-3 nights.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Since I live on basically a "fixed" income of Social Security benefits, it works out much better for me financially to "couch surf". Couchsurfing provides me an opportunity to meet people of various countries & cultures and am socially outgoing.
Interests
My added interests include hiking, walking, swimming, cycling, sailing, folk/jazz, R&B, films, read mostly spiritual, environmental preservation & political reads, at times, a world traveler.
I'm very healthy, into health foods, Yoga, work out @ YMCA, swimming, biking & am an avid walker.
Music, Movies, and Books
I love Jazz, Blues, R&B & folk music & light classical; true story, musical & educational films, steer away from violent films. Like to share my daughter's, father's music, Terry Callier, 1940-2012, Chicago's own, (folk/jazz/R&B, singer, songwriter, recording artist), very popular in UK, Europe, Japan, oddly little recognition in USA! Received UN's 1998 "Time for Peace" Awards, for album, "Time Peace"! Check Terry Callier out on YouTube, Spotify, etc.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In 1960's-mid '70's, was a Civil Rights Worker in Mississippi, voter registrations drives, create Freedom Schools, Wash., DC & Chicago, IL, training as a community organizer in Chicago, under Saul Alinsky , founder of community organizing.
Also, attempted to back-pack travel around world with my 5 yr. daughter for one year, both of us learning much mingling among folks of different nationalities, cultures and languages, mostly being accepted by almost everyone we met in Europe, No. & E. Africa for one year in mid-1970's.
Teach, Learn, Share
I like to teach English language learners acquire the English language. I want to learn to be a better listener. I can share my experiences, ideas and passion for social justice for all.
What I Can Share with Hosts
All my social, environmental justice experiences, as indicated above, sharing daughter's, Terry Callier, father's folk/jazz/R & B music (24 Albums, on YouTube) & music of your interest.
Since I'm a Ret. Senior, almost 75 yrs young, I prefer CS arrive no later than 9:30pm. Also, challenging to receive guests between 5 - 7pm, during supper preparations! Please attempt to arrive before or after specified time frames.
Thank you, Louise-Lora
