About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To embark on a serious inquiry of what fun means. Hah!
Save the world one person at a time

ABOUT ME (warning, long story... haha)

Nov 2016: I am exploring life in my hometown of Toronto. I can be soft, I can be hard. I can be kind, I can be angry. I like to approach life as an exploration on all levels that catch my awareness. I like to explore the concept of "self" and "my self". I am planning to become a psychotherapist. Someone once told me, after having a hard time digesting a theatre piece with a theme of climate change, "just go with what sticks"... That stuck. And I try not to be fooled. Yet I know I am a fool too!

April 2015: I am back in my native Toronto, wedged in between very vibrant neighbourhoods: Chinatown, Kensington Market, the University of Toronto Campus, Little Italy, etc... I have had a very disintegrating and re-integrating experience over the past 2.5 years travelling by bicycle, living, working, volunteering, and travelling around Asia. Now it's time to put all the pieces together and into action in this wonderful city!

Sept 2013: Learning about the balance between travelling and staying in one place. staying still for a while, integrating experiences, seeing who I have become, what I can do with some stability in the present moment. Exploring psychology, creative action, nature, community, Chinese culture, etc...

Jan 2013 version: oooo good idea past louis... Very interesting progression over time.
I am learning something about the value of being lighthearted, playful, embracing the child I embody, and creating meaning in life for what feels like the first time! How exciting! Lets boogie!

2012 version: Exciting times ahead! Finishing up my degree in May/June, and then heading to Europe in July to do some street performance with a friend in Prague and other places. Heading to the European Juggling Convention in Poland at the start of August. Then cycling down to Istanbul with a friend from home. Going to make my way over to Hong Kong in the winter to do some more street performing and settle down for a bit. After that... who knows???

2011 version: The end of my Masters degree in 2012 will mark the first time that I will NOT have a clear plan for the future doing some program or whatever. I will take time to explore my interests outside of science (art, street performance, music), introspect, host couch-surfers, and then travel the world and live somewhere else. We'll see what the 2012 version says.

2009 version: i'm always looking for answers to the questions i pose myself. i think it is important to develop an understanding of the world around oneself but never to be satisfied with it. one way to do this is to experience different ways of life. im trying to do this through wwoofing and now couch surfing.

PHILOSOPHY

My Chinese grandfather's wise words (or word, as it turns out) to me, written on a torn corner of a napkin at dimsum, the chinese character meaning "do".

That's part of it. I'm looking for balance in my continuous balancing act of trying to balance balance. OH! BALL-LANCE! ball-throw in French... I'm a juggler... something makes sense here... hmmm...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've surfed on various trips in the USA, France, Germany, Morocco, Turkey, Greece, Canada, Thailand.
I have hosted people through Couchsurfing/Warmshoers (for cycle-tourists) where I lived in China, as well as Toronto.
They've all been great people leading to great experiences.

My first couch surfing experience was during August 2009, in Morocco. I ended up going on a 10 day road trip down south with the host, his friends, and another CSer. A big life-changing travel experience. Anything is possible as we continue to open ourselves.

Music, Movies, and Books

The More Beautiful World Our Hearts Know is Possible - Charles Eisenstein

I've got hundreds of books on my e-reader, best travel tool ever! Reading mostly about world history, sustainability, critical psychology/mental health, creativity, and some adventure stories.

Music - eclectic. Big Range. Anything to fit or create the mood and find connection.

Everything I've seen by Stanley Kubrick has been mind-blowing. I like Jim Carrey.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hitchhiking at the end of the road into the desert in Morocco - my first hitch.

Followed through with falling in love...

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach juggling and other random tricks like balancing something on your face. I can teach you basics in Cantonese and Mandarin, and converse in English and French. I can share an understanding of biology - evolution, DNA, genes, genomes, cancer, etc... And I can tell you scary/absurd stories of politics in science too if you wish. Let's dance together too! and do handstands and cartwheels... wheeee.
