Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'll host when I stop traveling...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've haven't surfed for very long, not on here. But I have been traveling and couch surfing for decades... in Africa, Asia and Europe.

Interests

I'm interested in people and getting to know them on more than a casual, surface level. Listening to people's stories and hearing what's important to them.

  • traveling
  • cultural studies
  • journalism
  • cultural immersion
  • spirituality
  • religions
  • outdoor adventures
  • climbing mountains

Music, Movies, and Books

At this point in my life, I'm more of a podcast junkie. I love This American Life, Radio Lab, Outside Magazine's podcast, Dirtbag Diaries and many more. I listen to NPR nearly every day when I'm "home". I prefer the news and science programs.

I most enjoy live music. But if it can't be live, I prefer blues, EDM, classical, folk, reggae, African.

Books? Long form nonfiction, for instance John Krakauer. When I consider reading a book, I feel bad I'm not using that time to write my own.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Lived with witchdoctors in a squatter camp in Africa for 9 months. Then they told me the ancestors had chosen me to become one of them, so I did. Before I left, the leader apologized to me on behalf of his people because he confessed they had killed a bunch of white people during the worst time of his tribe's oppression. He said that after they decided to not kill me and let me live with them, they'd realized that not all white people were bad. He felt remorseful because he thought they'd probably killed some of the good ones...

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share stories. I have a lot of them, a lot of crazy ones. I'm a good listener, too. But I'm not one who is the loudest in the bar, dancing on the tables or anything. People tell me I carry a bright light inside of me, a positive energy. I wish to share that energy with all I meet.
