About Me

CURRENT MISSION

My current mission is travel, meet people, and learn about myself

ABOUT ME

I am 24. And American. But am in Australia on a Working Holiday Visa. Not doing any super-consistant work at the moment. Before this, I was living in Copenhagen and working at Baisikeli, a really cool bike shop. They used bikes from around the city and send them to Mozambique. I got to go to Mozambique this summer and I want to go back dearly. I love it.

I like to read. A lot. And watch movies. A lot. Particularly in the winter. And I'm a bike nerd. I want to be a mechanic. I've been playing bike polo lately. Those are my favorite hobbies. I love the sound of the ocean. And how the salty smell of the tide coming in while walking around downtown in my hometown, Beverly, Mass.

I think I am bad at filling out these 'About You' sections. I never quite know what to say and then whatever I do say I think sounds dorky.

Oh yeah, and I love to travel.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am relatively new to couchsurfing but am looking forward to start surfing in the very near future.

I don't have permanent residence right now so I can't host.

Interests

I am a big movie fan. I am tempted to start listing some of my favorites but I'm afraid i'll forget some. So a sample of some of the movies i like are:

Fantastic Mr. Fox
There Will Be Blood
The Big Lebowski
Forrest Gump
The Darjeeling Limited
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

I also really like books. I'll name some recent authors I've read. But it will by no means be a definitive list of my favorites.

David Foster Wallace.
Zadie Smith.
J.M. Coetzee.
J.D. Salinger.
Camu.

There's a lot of others, but those are fresh in my mind.

I also enjoy cycling, it's one of the great pleasures of living in a city like copenhagen. The biking is such a great part of the culture here, it's fantastic.

I want to go on a long-term cycle touring trip. I think it would be really cool to cycle across the USA.

Music, Movies, and Books

I already mentioned some movies so i'll stick to books and music here.

I great book that I love to read when traveling is a book called Vagabonding but Rolf Potts. It is a great guide to traveling, but not in a practical manner (e.g saving money at hotels and such) - it is a guide to the spirit of traveling. But I would have to say one of my favorite books of all time is Fahrenheit 541 by Ray Bradbury

Musically, i like, like most people, am open to many different genres. Rock, Rap, World, Reggae, Latin, I'm sure i'm forgetting some but oh well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spent two months in Mozambique repairing and building old bicycles imported from Denmark and reselling them to the local market.

I hitch-hiked from Copenhagen to Oslo with a friend. We got rides from:

A dane.

A danish couple (got us off track).

An old Swedish man who didn't speak english.

A young Iraqi couple. Only the girl spoke very broken English (they were awesome).

A Swedish man driving his daughter to school who raced his Saab on weekends.

A Swedish man who was on his way home from mountain biking.

An aging Swedish couple on their way to visit their children.

A polish truck driver. Really great guy. He got us all the way to the Norwegian border.

A Norwegian woman and her South American husband.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Cambodia, Germany, Italy, Laos, Mozambique, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

Denmark, Mozambique, United States
