Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'd like to meet lots of new, interesting people. I´d like to practice my foreign language skills and I want to know what´s going on in the world outside the borders of my little home country, Belgium.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I surfed many couches, in Argentina, Côte d'Ivoire, and Amsterdam.
Only recently I've started hosting people.
Interests
Cooking (and eating)
Wine, beer and whisky (drinking and making)
Music: I like to listen to jazz, electronic, laid back, dub, blues, funk, world music, some rock, ... Together with my brother I sometimes deejay at small parties. I try to play some guitar (I still need a lot of practice) and I can get some bluesy tunes out of my harmonica.
Reading: Coelho, Saramago, Marquez, ... world literature, if possible in the original language.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
In southern Colombia, I took a shabby bus from San Agustin to Popayan, right through FARC country. We got stopped by a troup of soldiers. They were searching our luggage for drugs and weapons. Suddenly a guy came out the bus, my guitar in his hand, asking quite angrily "whose guitar is this?". With a small voice I answered "it's mine". Then he handed me over the guitar and asked me to prove that it was a "real guitar". So I played a song before an audience of 25 heavily armoured soldiers and about 40 locals who were in the same bus. Never have I got such a big round of applause!
I hitchhiked through Argentina with a French guy. We were taken by a priest, truck drivers, farmers and even by a police car. At one time we were dropped near a national parc. Since it wasn't the touristy season we were totally alone in the parc, with 200 square kilometres of nature around us. Best part was waking up at 5, walking to the top of a mountain nearby and watch the sunrise over the parc: freezingly cold, but totally happy.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you everything about beer (and wine)making. I´m also very good in remembering pointless facts and bar wisdom... I know a lot about music and I think I can even explain you the Belgian political situation.
