About Me

I just bought my own apartment in Utrecht, because I love this city! I work for a professional ensemble that gives classical concerts of all sorts throughout the Netherlands & sometimes the rest of the world. Don't sing in it myself (just under the shower), but hang out backstage to organise their educational activities. It's very cool!
In my spare time I also organise this small scale co-creation festival.

Weekends I usually spend with friends, just eating good food, drinking wine at a fire and philosophise about life, that kinda stuff. You're welcome to join!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've actively participated in CouchSurfing on-and-off, depending on my living situation. It's actually been a while now, since I spent my time moving around shared houses a lot. But I just got my own apartment and ready to welcome some travellers again!

Meeting locals is obviously the best way to travel, and I like the open-minded atmosphere here at Couchsurfing. People who invite random people in their homes, or people who visit random people at their homes usually have the most interesting stories to tell!

I have surfed twice myself, once in Dublin and once in NYC. Both times I couldn't have wished for a better place to stay.

Interests

As my job implies, I love anything to do with music of all sorts. Make it, listen to it, discover new music, talk about music, go to gigs, etc. I play the piano (classical, Brahms, Beethoven, Schubert, that kinda stuff), work for a classical choir and listen to everything (mostly non-classical). I have the luck of being surrounded with great musicians, and we have jam sessions lots of times.

Other passions are yoga (ashtanga) and cooking (the elaborate Mediterranean style. The Silver Spoon cookbook is the bible I live by...). I recently picked up bouldering after a long hiatus and you might say I'm getting addicted to it.

I also have a random interest for Classics - not classical music, but the ancient Greek and Roman stuff. I love it, and don't care if that makes me extremely dorky. Ancient writers make me laugh out loud.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I tend to enjoy those really obscure art house movies without any obvious plot... I never remember names but like to just sit and watch the beautiful imagery. Oh, and Wes Anderson.

Music: folk, indie, alternative, electronic, jazz, rock, bluegrass, bit of hip-hop... anything original! Love to see and hear small, unknown bands.
Shall I name some? ...

Aaron Parks, Arcade Fire, alt-J, Aretha Franklin, Benny Sings, Bonobo, The Cardigans, CCR, Cedarwell, CocoRosie, Herbie Hancock, Radiohead (OMG I SAW THEM LIVE A FEW WEEKS AGO), Rufus Wainwright, The Beatles, Awkward I, Bon Iver, Mumford and Sons, First Aid Kit, Headphones, Fever Ray, Eefje de Visser, Johnny Cash, Gerald Clayton, Kyteman, Madeleine Peyroux, My Morning Jacket, Moss, Pete Philly and Perquisite, Raul Midon, Regina Spektor, Relax, Roosbeef, Simon & Garfunkel, Soil & "Pimp" Sessions, Soko, Stevie Ann, The Tallest Man on Earth, Rue Royale, Sleepy Sun, The Black Atlantic, The Villagers

Books - How to be good (Nick Hornby); The wind up bird chronicle (Murakami t know ;)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Went on exchange to Nashville, skydived, backpacked in the snow, skinnydipping in the sea with sunset, ice-skated 60kms in the Alblasserwaard, went to Bonnaroo, traveled to Iceland, lived in London for a year.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you to play piano and tell about the craziness of the ancient Greeks. I love to share my music and the artists that I'm passionate about, and in return would like to get to know new, unknown, small bands that you're passionate about!
And food, food, food. Please be the ones to eat my food, because it's no fun eating by yourself!
