About Me

Hi there !

We’re Luc and Sophie, a young couple from Marseille, in the South of France.

After our studies, both of us get a job, working for local authorities in France. Luc was doing agriculture development : helping farmers to make projects, get funds, and developing local consumption, organic producing... Sophie used to do tourism development : organizing events for local and foreign tourists, working on tourism development public policy...

After a while, we realized than we were too young to stay stuck in a routine, at least for now. So we decided to quite our jobs to travel around the world, meeting people and discovering different cultures.

Our current plans include, for a few months, a travel around India, Nepal and Southern East Asia (Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia...).

We hope our road will cross soon !

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Both of us have already travelled and be living abroad for a while during our studies. As we were working on research projects, we lived a few months in Asia and South America. Luc spent some time in Vietnam, analyzing the development of supermarkets and their impact on cities development and consumption habits. He used to work with many people there, he made a lot of friends, and enjoyed local life and habits.

Sophie lived in a parish in Bolivia for 3 months. She conducted some qualitatives interviews with young people to analyze their perception of the environment and its protect. She learnt a lot about quinoa cropping, originals recipes from Bolivia and local life in general. She also had the pleasure to cook for 30 people and to share some french recipes with them !

During these experiences, we realized that, rather than just sightseeing for a few days, we prefer staying in one place for a while to fully experience the local life and to have the opportunity to make friends and enjoy cultural exchanges.

We love to exchange with people we meet : chat, learn about cooking, listen to music… We are happy curious people, and we really enjoy life to its fullest. We are active people and we prefer to learn new skills and do things outside of our confort zone.

Music, Movies, and Books

Luc is a music lover and composer. He loves everything as long as it sounds good : from jazz to funk, from hip hop to techno music. He can spend days in dusty record shops, in order to find the best gems, and then sample then to create new music with.

He’s also a kind of geek sometime : he grew in an environment where Star Wars and The Lord of the Ring are considered as Bible. Actually, even his name comes from Star Wars universe (true story !).

Sophie is also a music lover, and she loves to dance all night long on many kinds of rhythms. She is also into cinema, mostly French and Hispanic movies (Gondry, Almodovar, and so on... !). She grew with Harry Potter, and she use to read a loooot of books, since she learnt how to read.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Leaving everything to discover the world !
Walking on the great wall of China !
Going as a solo traveler in Bolivia and Vietnam to work !
Contemplating the top of the world in Nepal !

Teach, Learn, Share

Except all the classic things people can share together when they meet (culture, music, learning and teaching different languages...), both of us are fond of cooking. Nothing can make us happier than sharing a good meal with good company. We are always excited to discover new tastes. And if you want it, it will be an for us to cook you some recipe we brought from France, or anywhere else we’ve been. Luc know, notably, a little bit of Vietnamese and Indian cooking, that he learned during his stays there. Sophie is a sweet tooth and loves to make all kind of cakes.

If you’re interested in, Luc also always bring with him his field recorder, and some musical production tools. If you’re a musician, let’s play together ! If not, he can show you some easy tricks to get into electronic music production.

Sophie is a "do it yourself girl", and she can, if you're interested in, show you how to do DIY decoration for the house, household products, some pottery...

And most of all, we are interested about everything, and always happy to learn new things. So whatever are your hobbies and passion, let’s share about it !!
