ABOUT ME

After leaving High School in 1997 (which feels like an eternity ago), I chose to go to work rather than try and pursue tertiary education. I went through a number of jobs, trying to find something which was both challenging and rewarding. It's surprising how many jobs are only one, and often neither. After a couple of years of wandering around, career-wise, I was employed as a faults operator at one of the major telecommunications companies in Australia. I spent the next 6 years, reverse-engineering the network, creating documents and procedures, training new employees, and doing a pile of interesting and engaging tasks. I then transferred into the Engineering section, working further on the same network and also learning about other networks and systems used by the company throughout Australia. I spent the next 4 years working there.

After ten years, and at the age of 29, I decided that I needed a change. I needed to seek out a new challenge, have some adventures and just try and enjoy life as much as I possibly could. To that end, I resigned from my job, applied for a couple of visas, attended a TEFL course and sold/gave away/stored all of my worldly possessions except for those I put in my pack and decided to see the world the old way - on the ground rather than from the window of an airplane high above it all.

After a year of traveling around South East Asia, I returned home, for my grandmother's 90th birthday, and my own 30th. Unfortunately, Sydney prices drained my cash reserves, so I am still in Australia, working and saving, planning my next big escape.

PHILOSOPHY

"Be the best person you can, and help those around you be the best person they can be. If we all did this, there would be no need for a 'Heaven' - we'd be living in it."
