About Me

Hey hey

I'm Luke. I'm a student at oxford, where I currently live. I like couches. I like surfing*. I like dogs (I am a dog person) and books and music. I like people. I study human sciences at oxford university and my brain is getting squishier day by day. I also work as a health care assistant at a hospital in Peterborough, the town I am from.

*I've been surfing three times in my life, don't be fooled, i am not a surfer.

It seems common to put a bit of a philosophy towards life and travelling on here - I certainly have one but its an unbounded mutable scrambled mess - better a conversation to be had over food and/or drink. I like knowing people and to be known by people? That's a start.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

You are, presumably, a traveller, of some sorts. Are you enjoying it? I like travelling. I hope to do much more. I'm currently grounded, staying in Oxford, leading an ascetic life, over the long summer break, in a house with some spare beds. My housemates have moved out of the place and I am left with an empty house shell - this hermit crab is the sole occupier.

I've couchsurfed before and always enjoyed it, so I thought I'd be on the reciprocating end this time.

Shoot me a message if you're looking for a place to stay , but let me know who you are and what (if any) expectations you have!

Interests

I might as well list my academic interests here since that has (somewhat begrudgingly) mutated into being my life. I'm studying Human Sciences - it's an undergraduate degree. It's a wild mix of biological and social sciences and it's all about understanding humans through different perspectives - genetics, evolution, behaviour, culture, society, health and populations.

I'm currently studying behavioural ecology, demography and genetics, i'm also looking into anthropological perspectives on technology and the human body as well as contemporary ideas about human cultural, behavioural and cognitive evolution and how evolutionary theory might be applied.

Music, Movies, and Books

Yeesh, these questions eh!

At the moment of writing I'm listening to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ahU-x-4Gxw ... I like lots of different music. Lately it's been David Byrne, LCD Soundsystem, Violent Femmes... also John Martyn, Johnny Flynn, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Sun Kil Moon, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Bert Jansch, Beach Boys... I'm just listing names now...

My viewing time has been pretty bad for the past couple of years (I haven't watched enough TV - incredible isn't it?)... the most recent film I watched was Hereditary, and that was great. Would certainly welcome company to the cinema!

I read a lot of books. What have I read fiction-wise...? Kurt Vonnegut, Milan Kundera, Philip K Dick, Chuck Palahnuik, David Foster Wallace, and alot else besides, Those are the authors I've devoured at various points in my life. I like Infinite Jest, stereotypically.
