À propos de moi

I grew up in a small, isolated community in Northwestern Ontario, where I learned that each individual is valuable (though the culture has many faults), and enjoyed the majesty of the Canadian wilderness. I have lived in Montréal since 2012 (where the diversity is spectacular!), first to study at McGill, and now to enjoy the summer and learn French before planning my next life steps. I have devoted my life (at least in my own head) to promoting Universal Basic Income, but so far this has only taken the form of my honors thesis and occasional organizing and activism.

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

Currently, I am (desperately) seeking a couch in NYC June 14th & 15th so that I can attend the North American Basic Income Guarantee conference! It is the opportunity of a lifetime, and my utmost priority to attend.

With the rise of Airbnb, and the cost of living in NYC, I appreciate the profound generosity of those who continue to host couch surfers. What you do is one of the purest manifestations of the world we are trying to build.

Though I technically have no references on my CouchSurfing profile, I have hosted and been hosted many times using my partner's account. Plus, I have lived in deliberately communal households for my entire adult life.

Centres d'intérêt

I consider myself a post-productivist, meaning that I actively try to deemphasize and demoralize earning money individually, and economic growth collectively. This translates into a 'laid-back' lifestyle that includes 'what matters most': Sunday afternoons in the park with friends, supporting one another through the struggles of life, communal living, spending time in nature, contemplation, the arts, reading, good food and drink... and my promotion of Basic Income, so that we each have the power to say 'no' to meaningless drudgery (which is currently necessary to survive.)

Ce que j'aimerais partager avec mes hôtes

Unfortunately, while in NYC for the Basic Income conference, I may have little time to visit with hosts... But I would be thrilled to spend an evening cooking for you (and making drinks, if you're into that!) and to talk about everything under the Sun (and beyond!).
