About Me

ABOUT ME

Hey, I’m Lucas — 32, Brazilian-Italian, currently traveling across the US through Workaway. I’ve spent the past couple of months living in Florida and New Orleans, and I’m now in Connecticut before heading to Guatemala and then South America.

My background is in Political Science and International Relations, though at this point travel and curiosity have probably taught me more in practice than any degree. I like people. I like hearing how someone ended up where they are, what they care about, what they'd do differently. A good conversation over food or a beer or a glass of wine is genuinely enough for me.

PHILOSOPHY

I travel for conversations more than for places. I've stayed in enough hotels to know that the most interesting part of any trip is rarely the sightseeing. A city can be stunning, but the best part of traveling, for me, is always the people I didn’t plan to meet.

Couchsurfing is just a reliable way to get more of that. Simple as that.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Been doing this since 2014. Hosted, surfed, shown up to meetups where I knew nobody and left knowing people I still talk to. It's genuinely shaped how I travel more than anything else.

When I stay at your house, I'm not there to just sleep and disappear. I'll help with whatever needs doing, I'll sit and talk if you feel like it — or leave you alone if you don't.

CURRENT SITUATION

Right now I'm traveling and doing a Workaway in the US, so I can't host. But I'm always up for meeting people — coffee, a walk, no agenda. Often more interesting than anything planned.

WHAT I CAN SHARE

Decent company, some travel stories, a Brazilian-Italian take on things, and probably a playlist recommendation you didn't ask for.

If I'm staying with you, I'm tidy and I respect your space — but I'd also rather spend an evening with you than just use your couch.

Interests

Music is probably my biggest passion — genres, discoveries, obscure recommendations, the story behind a song. I could talk about it for hours, and I’m always happy to swap playlists.

Beyond that: running, books, films, and an ongoing curiosity about how different cultures eat, celebrate, grieve, and make sense of the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I'm always interested in discovering new artists and rhythms. But here are some of my favorites: Johnny Cash, AC/DC, The Ramones, Led Zeppelin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Bob Dylan, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Misfits, Manu Chao, SOJA, Social Distortion, NOFX, Oasis, Black Sabbath, Metallica, João Gilberto, Tom Jobim

Books: Hemingway, Bukowski, Fitzgerald, J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien, Edgar Allan Poe, Carlos Ruiz Zafón, Fernando Pessoa.

Tv series: How I met your mother, Friends, The Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Renting a car in Greece and driving around Zakynthos and Kefalonia. Stunning roads, completely unhinged traffic, and at some point you will stop for a herd of goats who have claimed the road as their own. They're not moving. You wait.

Also: walking into the jungle in Chapada dos Veadeiros in Brazil through trails only locals really know. No signal, no plan. One of those times where you realize how small you are in a good way.

Teach, Learn, Share

Some Portuguese or Italian if you want. Brazilian or Italian culture — food, football, general chaos. Basic samba. I'll be honest, I'm more enthusiastic than skilled.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Mostly I like spending time with the host — exploring the surroundings together, trying local food or local bars, hearing about how life actually works there. I'd be happy to take you out for a coffee, a beer or at least help with groceries if we cook together.

I have a lot of stories, recommendations, and contacts scattered around the world if any of that's useful. And if you ever find yourself where I'm based, you'll have a place to stay.
