About Me

Hi everybody !

I'm Lucas, and I'm from France. Wherabouts you say ? Angoulême, a little city best known for its comics festival. And, mind you, that festival is rather internationally known for comics fans ! Well, that's what I say to whomever asks, it's the local pride you see !
Other than that, I'm a student in Human Rights law, and this could well be my final year of study. If you happen to know an NGO that recruits, let me know !

What else ought I to say here ? There are so many categories here to fill out that I fear to be redundant !
(just a little warning : the absurdities you might find here are voluntary, I hope that I'll at least get a smile from you out of it !! ;) )

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Why am I on Couchsurfing ?
Well, in two words : stereotypes and love. I think the formers are amongst the main reasons why there is a serious lack of the latter in the world. Of course not all stereotypes are harmful, some are funny, some are well known not to be true, some are harmless. But some are so well and deep settled in opinions that they guide decisions, equally for voters or people in power, and in that way are dangerous.
Knowing and learning about different people is in my opinion the key to kill generalised hatred. It just undermines it so much, because generalised hatred has no basis.
Couchsurfing is to me a good illustration of that philosophy. Weather the person you meet is (culturally) different, ie comes from a far country, or not doesn't really matter in the end. We all have something to gain from talking to a stranger.
(after I re-read this I found it to be a bit cheesy haha, but hey that's still true though !)

Interests

I love listenning to stories. And if you can't tell me some, we'll make some, invent some, doesn't matter !
Other than that, apart from the typical "I like going out I like movies music havin fun traveling partying", I found myself to really love going into a nice café that has sofas, getting a large cup of coffee and a cookie or something, and hanging there just about the whole afternoon.
And if you want a more formal approach to that category, here comes. I'm very much interested in human rights, especially the ones that arise out of any form of discrimination. I play the guitar, and I like trying out other instruments.
Let's leave some to the suspense...

Music, Movies, and Books

About books : please do read 1984, by George Orwell (it's where 'Big Brother' come from, if you wondered). I don't have the competencies to really comment on this book, but what I can say is that I saw many similarities in the book and in our society (of today, and let's not forget this book was written in 1948)... If you're into that, get Animal Farm, same author. Great too.

Other than that, I just finished Heartsnatcher (L'Arrache-Coeur, in FR), by Boris Vian, and I really liked the fantastical (kinda) aspect of it, so many symbols and here too, criticisms.

Comics-wise : Calvin and Hobbes, by Bill Watterson is just so awesome. You propably know it ; the expressions on the face of that little kid are priceless.
I discovered not long ago the work of Liz Climo (google it), it is so cutely funny.
Joan Sfar wrote (and drew) Le Chat du Rabbin (I don't know if there's an English title. Literally : The Rabbi's Cat). The drawings are very beautiful. I love his style.
If you're into not mainstream comics, look into Lewis Trondheim, he's really cool.

Music-wise :
The 'classicals' of rock / folk, I love classical music too (although I couldn't recognize a composer from what I'm listenning to).
In no particular order : Chill Bump, Rizzle Kicks, Chet Faker, Hermitude, Lurch & Chief, Selah Sue, The Klezmatics, Skip the Use, The Strokes, Jack White (and all his bands), Absynthe Minded, Arctic Monkeys, Black Sabbath, Chinese Man, Hindi Zahra, John Butler Trio...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have walked through the Desert of the Lençóis, Marahno, Brazil, in 3 days. It's a desert of white sand, with fresh water lagunas between the dunes, so you can take a swin whenever you like.
Indescriptible

Teach, Learn, Share

"Teach, learn, share" ? What does that mean ? Should I do each one successively ? Alright let's go.

Teach :
Ok I'm gonna teach you how to do a G chord on a guitar (standard tunning).
Put the guitar on your lap (yes I'm assuming your a very beginner !). Put your index finder on the second fret (from the left extremity of the neck (from your perspective)) of the second string (from the top, meaning the A string). Put your middle finger on the third fret, on the first string (from the top, the low E one). And, most difficult part if you're a first timer, put your pinky on the third fret of the 6th string (the high E), et voila ! You can alternatively, instead of using your first and middle fingers, use your middle and third fingers.
With your right hand, strum the strings and set the dancefloor on fire !! (with one chord only, that might take a bit of time ;) )
Done !

"Learn":
Hmm, OK.
Wikipedia > random article > "Pestovo"
"Pestovo (Russian: Пестово) is the name of several inhabited localities in Russia."
Well, I did not know that. I learnt something.
Done !

"Share" :
Oh look, I made a quiche ! You want a slice ? Here let me share it in two. Here you go ! *Handing out a plate of half a quiche*
Aaaaand dooone ! Aww yeah !

What I Can Share with Hosts

Toilet rolls.

Seriously though, I don't know ! My story of life, what I have in my head at the time, my thoughts, a beer, something like that. On condition that you do the same ;)
