My name is Lucija, I come from sunny Pula (Croatia), but I currently live in less than sunny Tampere (Finland). I have a background in journalism and political science, and in Tampere I'm trying to finish my second Master's in peace and conflict and going back home to sunshine as soon as possible.
Besides that, I enjoy evenings filled with friends, good wine, food, music; and thought-provoking conversations.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing because I fell in love with the beauty of having genuine experiences with locals while travelling, and being able to be such a local while hosting.

I haven't hosted anyone in Tampere yet cause I live with a bunch of roommates, and have a very busy schedule, but I am planning to host a bit from September onward! During summer I'm either at my flat in Pula hosting alone or in Zagreb with my bf hosting there!

Interests

I'm passionate about political science; migration, refugee and asylum studies, I have been studying and working/volunteering in this area for years now.
In my (very limited) free time, I like to go to the beach, bake cakes, listen to music and read good books, or just be lazy on the couch and watch Survivor.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like good thrillers and bad slashers :D and my all time favourite film is LOTR.
My favourite book is the autobiography of Malcolm X....and Harry Potter! If its connected to my studies or work I read a lot on postcolonial and critical race theory, Black feminist thought...and if its fictional, some of my favourites are GRR Martin, Tolkien, Larsson, Nesbø and other Scandinavian crime authors; Kundera, Khaled Hosseini, Chinua Achebe, Ngozi Adichie; etc....
My music taste is eclectic to say the least, but nowadays I'm mostly listening to reggae and dancehall, so artists like Chronixx, Jesse Royal, Kabaka Pyramid, Protoje, Masicka, Popcaan, Vybz Kartel.... The thing that never changes is my all time favourite band, Papa Roach. I also listen to hip hop (artists like Akala, Lowkey, Dead Prez, Mos Def, Brand Nubian), and some dubstep (mostly Phaeleh), jazz and blues. When I'm sad I put on some Alice in Chains (with Layne), and my guilty pleasure is Rihanna!
