Music, Movies, and Books

“It took me a long time and most of the world to learn what I know about love and fate and the choices we make, but the heart of it came to me in an instant, while I was chained to a wall and being tortured. I realised, somehow, through the screaming of my mind, that even in that shackled, bloody helplessness, I was still free: free to hate the men who were torturing me, or to forgive them. It doesn’t sound like much, I know. But in the flinch and bite of the chain, when it’s all you’ve got, that freedom is an universe of possibility. And the choice you make between hating and forgiving, can become the story of your life.”
― Gregory David Roberts, Shantaram

“Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect he ceases to love.”
― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was in Mongolia camping when one night a storm was about to arrive. We were aware that it would have been extremely difficult to spend the night out in our tent but we were far from any village or city so we didn't have any other chance than stay and face the bad weather. Suddenly, out of the blue, a man arrived on his moto. He invited us to stay at his place saying the wind would have destroyed our tent. We didn't know this men but we decided to trust him. He and his family welcomed us in a Gher ( traditional mongolian tent) and immediately we felt like at home. We shared the dinner and slept in the same tent. That night it rained cats and dogs, the day after the roads were muddy but thanks to this family we were able to continue our trip with our equipment. Wr will be forever grateful to them.
