Overview
About Me
I am a student (about to go into my last year!) studying American Studies at Yale. I grew up in cities (Cambridge Ma, NYC) and so am fascinated by night life, urban politics, and the thousands of conversations happening at the same time in a small landscape. But I also spent a lot of my childhood by the ocean and on farms in Maine, and so I am drawn to the idea of maybe, one day, living outside of a city. I love movies/foreign films and have studied some Latin American cinema at school, I enjoy spending time on photography projects that allow me to get to know people better and learn about their lives. Would walk through an entire city to get to know it, especially the graffiti.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I think there is power in witnessing how people from other parts of the world live their lives. I know that I have a lot to learn from other people, other countries. Once, in Granada, Spain, I met a local man who ran a shop centered around Olive Oil — he was an incredible chef, if you go its called La Oliva — but it wasn't just the food that drew me in. It was the space he created, the environment that he imagined for people to come together and talk. We talked about politics, about his experience under Franco's rule and about his reflections on life, on his people, on Spain and its great writers. I think the moments I spent there changed how I think, and I'm still not really sure how. I also just really like homes/apartments/places that have been lived in domestically, not for negotiations/business.
I'm specifically signing up for couch surfing now (June 2018) in Bogota-- I have been in Colombia (Pereira and Cali) for 2 weeks and would like to have a last weekend in the country with people who know a little about the city!
