About Me

32 year old guy, currently traveling through Nordic countries and sometimes somewhere else. Before that I worked in an IT company in Zagreb for five years, but I quit that job so I can travel more. If I go even more back in time I also worked as a plumber in Trieste and as a firefighter in Pula.

I like to make big changes in my life every few years so it doesn't get boring. Only constants in my life are desire to learn and the urge to travel. I enjoy acquiring new knowledge and skills, but also share it with others.

I tend to be slightly introverted, but I generally enjoy the company of others. It's just that I need rest from people from time to time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I joined Couchsurfing in 2012 mostly to host people in Zagreb, as I enjoyed meeting travelers and showing them around places I like. I hosted around 30 people in a few years, but then things in my life changed and I wasn't able to host anymore. Now my lifestyle changed again, I quit my job and started traveling. I'm mostly using a Workaway now as I prefer to stay longer periods of time in certain places, but I hope to start using Couchsurfing also to meet people on my shorter trips.

Interests

My favorite hobbies are climbing, hiking and mountain biking. I also like swimming and kayaking, but I do that less often.

I try to read books more often, but I'm not succeeding as much as I want. Even though I'm not reading enough, I watch a lot of documentaries.

Travel in general. I like both cities and nature, exploring cultures and wilderness.

Last few years I enjoy working on my piece of land in Istria where I have olives, fruit trees and some ornamental plants. Half of the land is forest where I do minimal intervention and I'm trying to leave it as wild as possible.

Music, Movies, and Books

I'm mainly interested in books that allow me to better understand the world around me. Topics which interest me are mostly history, biology, technology, politics, religions, human and animal behaviour etc.

I like to watch documentaries on the same topics, it's usually easier to stat learning about something through videos or documentaries and then try to read a book about it.

I also like fictional books or movies, but I didn't read a lot of books to name them and I watched too many good movies to name them.

Music is not really my thing, I like it, but usually I don't listen to music intentionally. I just turn on the radio or choose something recommended to me by youtube algorithm and if I like it I leave it, if not I turn it off. Depend a lot on my mood also.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent three months in northern most part of Norway during winter working with sled dogs. I was going on trips with them, sometimes even alone for 2-3 hours in all conditions, from sunny days and polar nights to snow storms and fresh snow. Sometimes it was -30 degrees celsius, sometimes I had aurora borealis above me.

If you are one of 4 million people living in the world's Arctic regions and this sounds like everyday life to you, then another amazing thing I did was swimming in the sea almost every month of the year in Croatia.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you rock climbing, essentials for wild animal spotting, a few unnecessary facts about birds, basics of olive oil production, how credit card processing works, methods of extinguishing forest fires and some controversial Balkan history.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Boring stories, bad humor and terrible cooking.
