I'm a 26 year old Canadian living for the moment back home in Vancouver. I study and play jazz guitar in the style of Django Reinhardt. In school I studied problems in global economic and political systems through philosophy and history. I'm vaguely looking for a master's program that exites me, and in the meantime I'm writing and reading and playing my guitar and having a laugh with whoever's around!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've had many wonderful experiences couchsurfing before I got an account, so it was a natural evolution. I've had my fill of detached tourist traveling I think. Without meeting people along the way, the places don't really mean much! So I am stoked to host people for whom I can provide local experiences. I especially respect couchsurfing because it allows people who don't have a lot of money to work with to still see the world and explore, and thus to realize that it doesn't take money to do beautiful things.

Interests

I read a lot, novels and histories, philosophy and art books. I play guitar, these days I'm learning the gypsy jazz- or 'manouche'- style perfected by Django Reinhardt. Its extremely fun and absolutely endless.

I like exploring cities because architecture contains aesthetic wonders. Particularly churches and banks, because they are so monumental. Wandering around aimlessly is a valuable way to spend time, contrary to what a lot of people seem to think. I like beer and good food.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I climbed the tallest mountain of Slovakia in a snowstorm with a hangover and improper clothing. From the bottom it just looked like a little hill in the fog, but the mountain kept going higher and higher and at the top it was all we could do to crawl up to the cross in the snowdrift and touch it with an outstretched hand, yelling to each other that we can't stay up there long.
