About Me

Time for the latest edit (April 2023)

I have done some Couchsurfing but not loads compared to many people in the world, and I don’t really consider myself a particularly experienced traveller. But I enjoy wondering around places and seeing what’s going on, if I’m lucky enough to have the company of somebody from that city / country to wonder with me then all the better.

I’m from the UK, living in Freetown (Sierra Leone - West Africa) but will be based in Malawi for the next three months. I work for Save the Children - an international NGO - and can speak a lot about the ups and downs of the NGO life if you’re interested.

My attitude to travel changes a lot depending on my mood and current life status. I do really love travelling alone because of all the ups and downs. It’s challenging and often I feel quite lost but I really think there’s a lot to gain from those difficult moments. I’m not the most organised traveller and tend to have a vague idea of my plans, then make it up a bit as I go along which tends to normally work out in the end.

Key points about me:

- I think my party attitude has diminished a bit but it still lives on quietly and can be tempted out from time to time
- I do like quite animated and challenging discussions and have often been accused of deliberately trying to provoke a ‘debate’
- I’m interested in finding out the nitty gritty of your hopes and dreams, and what makes you tick
- I like to think I’m good at languages but then again have often been accused of being arrogant and making stuff up as I go along
- Some people would probably say my attitude to life and travel is a bit silly and not very cautious, but only a few bad things have happened so far..

In terms of ‘interests’:

I'm pretty active, love to run, cycle, swim and play tennis.

I play a bit of guitar (badly) and have a decent record collection.

I do care about work and want to do well, but it's not everything.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

For me the only way to visit a country is to spend time with the locals, as they will give you the best idea of what a place is really like.

I want to meet people with a similar life outlook to me, and hopefully exchange as much about our culture as we can.

Interests

DANCING, music, cycling, walking, mountains, skiing, languages.

An enthusiastic party goer.

After last summer I am quite interested in international development and the different possible ways of going about it.

Music, Movies, and Books

I think when people ask 'what music do you like', it's too hard to answer properly, so I'll give a few of my favourite albums, which I know the answer to:

The Stones Roses UK - Stone Roses
Blue - Joni Mitchell
Most albums - Radiohead
Discreet music - Brian Eno
Revolver, Abbey Road - Beatles

I haven't read absolutely loads, but I actually really like to kill a mockingbird and lord of the flies, which are classics. Lord of the flies in particular had a big effect each time I read it. Freakonomics is an interesting read, and on a nerdier note 'Fermat's last theorem' is quite a good introduction to an old and famous problem.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Lived.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you anything about maths you might need to know, and a wide range of northern English recipes! Also handy with a bicycle if you're stuck. I like speaking French, even if I'm not great, and I love to learn anything that might help me get by in life.

I'll be happy to cook meals for you, as I enjoy it a lot and like sharing local recipes.

People seem to enjoy my dancing, so I'll show you some moves.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can help with hosts' English if they wish, and maths if they are that way inclined! Would love to share my stories and hear theirs, and I'm always happy to share a drink with anybody in the world.
I can share my positivity and I promise I'll make you laugh, and if you're up for it, I do like to share a good party.
