About Me
CURRENT MISSION
...to discover what mine really is. In the meantime, I'll settle for experiencing life.
ABOUT ME
I believe in the simple life. I was born and bred in the bush in Northern NSW, Australia, where we still to this day light a fire for our hot water and we shower outside among the trees and animals. I have spent extended periods living in the "big smoke" but tend to take every opportunity to get back to the relaxed pace of country life and the sense of community it offers. However, there is something out there calling me... I can hear it in the wind. I can't fully understand what it's saying but I can feel it drawing me... and it feels right! So, I'm just surrendering to it and I can't wait to see where it takes me.
PHILOSOPHY
Yesterday is history,
Tomorrow is a mystery,
Today is a gift,
...that's why it is called the present.
I might not be fully there yet, but I hope to one day live by this motto anyway.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I'm new to couch surfing. My younger brother is currently travelling around the UK and has only had good things to say about his couch surfing experiences, so I thought I'd give it a go. I'm really looking forward to it and hope that I can return the offer of a couch to travellers in the future.
Interests
I love nature and being amongst it, but my real passion and creative outlet is music. For me, sitting behind a drumkit is like meditating... my mind shuts off to the outside world and I become intensely present with the rhythm. I also have the occasional strum on a guitar or a tinkle on the piano and I love a good sing along if I have the right amount of beer under my belt, haha! I've also been known to act like an excited little kid around amazing structures and architecture too (that's just my inner-geek playing up, haha).

Music, Movies, and Books
Music: My tastes are too varied to go listing bands but it will suffice to say that I don't base my tastes on genre... if a song or part of a song grabs me, it grabs me. Simple as that.
Books: I love to escape with a good book but haven't been reading much lately. I look forward to starting my travels so I can get back into it again.
Movies: I can vege out infront of any movie... staying awake may be harder in some than in others though. There are also a few documentaries that I've watched in recent years that have influenced me in a number of ways. Namely the Zeitgeist documentary series, Loose Change, Food Inc and Gasland (very relevant to what is currently happening around my home... Mining Companies, shame on you!)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was lucky enough during my final year of my civil engineering degree to be awarded a scholarship to help with the tsunami reconstruction efforts in Banda Aceh (first hit and most severely damaged) following the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami that devastated the region. Our role was to help with the design and oversee construction of new precast modulated houses in a number of communities which had been wiped out 2 years previous. There are too many experiences to write of here but my life will be forever changed for the better as a result of this opportunity. I will never take anything for granted again after seeing how the happiest people I've ever encountered have nothing but have also been through more hardship than I could possibly begin to comprehend.
