About Me

Hi folks - I sadly can't host as I'm living out of a van and with family but feel free to drop me a message if you are looking for ideas on things to do down the coast.

-------------------------------------------

Ex corporate warrior (nothing heroic about an office lol) who had the dream of travelling the world. I spent 2 years saving up and put on my backpack to start in Mexico. Fast forward a few months into the trip and I was missing riding so much it was either fly home and ride my bike or take one travelling with me. A few evolution's of that plan and a few months later and I had ridden my bike through central america with dreams to go around the world; and now here I am :). My passion is taking the back roads and trails so I often find myself semi lost in the mountains of where ever I am. With trance music pumping through my headphones I don't know of a better feeling! Rough route is starting in Europe through Turkey to the middle east onto Asia and then north through China to Mongolia to do a winter in Siberia before heading to the 'stans' and eventually back to Europe. The next leg I am still thinking about....maybe south america?

My bike setup is a Surly Wednesday (fat bike) with bikepacking gear:

Bags:
- Handlebar Bag
- 4 x fork dry bags (first of it's kind)
- 2 x Insulated water bags (stops the water freezing solid in the real cold places...at least for a while)
- 2 x top tube bags
- Custom frame bag
- Saddle bag

Gear:
- Current is full 4 season gear which I can ride to about -15C (5F)
- Ultra cold gear (what I call the 'Siberian Box' as I'll have it mailed to me) can take me safely to about -40C (-40F)
- Electronics to support my Vlogs/website

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To find the perfect couch of course, why else? But really, I thought couch surfing would be a great way to make meaningful friends in the cities I have the privilege to explore.

Interests

In no particular order:
Bike riding - Fixed gear and MTB freestyle (jumping). I live for the adrenaline rush!
Trance/Electronic music - listen to it all day every day.
Documentaries - Imagine someone has spent their whole life studying/exploring a topic and condenses all the most interesting parts into 30 minutes to entertain and hopefully teach you a thing or two? Sounds Incredible right! That's doco's for you!
Surfing/Gym/Running/Skiing/Long boarding/Out-doorsy stuff - All hell-ah fun and keeps the body healthy :)
Travel - Exploring the world, meeting people from different walks of life; maybe even finding a new place to live.
Good Ice Coffee - It's a given :)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music wise I' hooked on Trance/Electro/Chill step etc. but listen to all kinds of genres when I have to :P. Just kidding, I'm always up for hearing something new.

For books, it's all about what I can learn. At the moment it covers Psychology (e.g. 'The Psychology of Persuasion'), History ('Collapse' and 'The War of the World') and anything else that seems interesting.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Can we go with a top 10? With one it's hard to choose! Oh I wish, my life isn't that crazy (yet). The first thing that comes to mind is surviving a near-hypothermic bike ride in the mountains while wearing shorts and a shirt. I couldn't feel my hands + they were turning blue, shaking uncontrollably and no one knew where I was...I clearly planned for this trip well!! Survived it, swore I hated cold weather and still ride in shorts a shirt everywhere. The end! :P
