About Me

*If you're feeling unsafe and it's urgent, you're welcome to get me on my phone (please - this is not for general requests, only emergencies 🙏) + 447851054199*

---

Hello! I love Couchsurfing and have been a member (mostly hosting) for about 18 years - one of the first UK members 🙃

You can find me on Facebook if you like:

I'm less likely to accept a request if it looks copy pasted - I'm interested in why you'd like to stay with me specifically 🙂

🌳
I think Couchsurfing is really special because it's one of the few genuinely gift economy communities online these days.

You give with no immediate expectation of receiving...and giving feels like receiving anyway. I've had so many amazing adventures exploring my own hometown while hosting weird and wonderful humans from all over the planet.
And the unbelievably generous people who've taken me into their homes, immersed me in the authentic culture of their community and neighbourhoods, leaving me with unforgettable memories.
This is what Couchsurfing is about for me. Some of them have become lifelong friends.

There are a lot of new people on couchsurfing these days since the organisation became a private company that did a huge marketing push. In some ways this is good, but I always encourage people, especially young women travelling alone - please check the references of hosts before you stay with them! Double check sleeping arrangements. And always have a backup plan 🙂
Check out the new Hangouts feature on the app too! but again, do check references before meeting someone : )

MY AVAILABILITY
I don't work a normal 9-5 job; I freelance as a filmmaker and with various projects, so you're welcome to stay but I may not know how available I'll be to hang out with you to show you round the city until maybe a day or two in advance (for example, I can get booked for shoots at short notice) so please don't expect me to be around lots! I do have some wonderful housemates though and you shouldn't have any trouble having access to the house for freedom to explore this amazing city 🤗

CURRENT MISSION
Get inspired, explore, inspire others.
Point my camera at stuff that matters.
Learn how to collaborate really well with humans in community/ on projects. This feels like an important task of my generation, in an era of great need and great opportunity. I'm also really passionate about the potential for a radically different democracy that is participatory and transformative.

ABOUT ME
I live in a lovely shared house in Bermondsey, 10 mins from London Bridge, with some wonderful friends, male and female, 20s and 30s. It's a beautiful home I'd be happy to share with you if you write a personal message, why you'd particularly like to stay with me : ]

I want my work to be like play, and it often is. Mostly it comprises making cinematic promotional films for charities & community projects, working with young people in leadership and creative play, and I work with Extinction Rebellion UK.

PHILOSOPHY
Explore, inspire, educate and enable: myself and others.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I must have hosted over a hundred people over the last decade in Bournemouth and Brighton. Now I'm a Londoner : )
I've surfed maybe about 20 times (half of them recently in Costa Rica : ) and think it's a kinda amazing thing to do to experience the real culture of a place, not just hotels which are the same everywhere and cruising around tourist hotspots 🙄 I prefer to pretend to be a local when I travel

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
hosted loads of awesome people -some have become good friends.
Such a beautiful community.

Interests

I do a lot of work with young people, film making, journalism and am super interested in events, networks, groups, theory & practice in the vast field of self care, people care & planet care.

I love testing my comfort zone. In a way, I often feel most at home when I'm on the move.

Music, Movies, and Books

Fish Tank, Into The Wild, Half Nelson, Sweet 16, Tsotsi, Waltz With Bashir, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I miss Vietnam so much. I learned a little Vietnamese and we veered well off the tourist trails for a few weeks. I particularly remember walking through the streets of Sapa (bordering China) one night to find a chance encounter with some insanely cute kids, 2 girls and a little boy with a cap and a cheeky grin jumping out of trees to surprise us. This was our new family for about 24hrs 😂 they went with us everywhere and showed us around

So many crazy, beautiful stories. I feel more at home in my memories of Vietnam than I do in England in some ways.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach climbing, film, photography, computing & multimedia technology and share experience of social entrepreneurism.

For me, travelling is about getting out of my little contained universe; my little bubble.
I like travelling to be a balance of all kinds of stuff, from ridiculous silly fun moments to challenging difficult moments, seeing beautiful things as well as sometimes disturbing real things. I think a deck chair and martini is a holiday, but travelling is something else. Something I don't really like to plan in advance much, but take every opportunity to explore when I'm there.
