Overview
About Me
Hello! I hail from the United States, but I will begin teaching English in Montpellier, France this fall. As most folks on Couchsurfing, I enjoy meeting new people (especially international folks) because these relationships can often lead to quite meaningful exchanges and moments of self-discovery. This leads me to the next question...
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing interests me because it provides opportunities that staying in a hostel or a motel might not: whereas one certainly can meet many people at a hostel, Couchsurfing allows a traveller to install him/herself temporarily into the life of a local in a given city.
Interests
Reading (both in a strict sense, e.g. a book, and a figurative sense, e.g. making sense of the world around me).
In the more strict sense of the word, I enjoy reading
--philosophy
--literature
--linguistics
--travel literature
--anthropology
--history
--religion
and many more.
In the figurative sense of the word, I enjoy reading and looking for
--cultural differences in general that contribute to a different world view
--differing social mores, norms and cues
--different foods!
--etc
Music, Movies, and Books
I enjoy a wide range of cultural materials, but I present a few of my favorite musical artists here:
--Phil Ochs
--Simon and Garfunkel
--Sufjan Stevens
--The Milk Carton Kids
--Bright Eyes
--Sigur Ros
--many, many more
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
This question seems a little masturbatory in nature.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I don't pretend to have much to share with a host. However, because other people's perspectives fascinate me, I will willingly share my ideas, my ears and cultural information concerning the U.S.A. when and where appropriate.
Countries I’ve Visited
Canada, Costa Rica, England, France, Hungary, Mexico, Portugal
Countries I’ve Lived In
France, United States
