About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Run a sub 12 hr Ironman. Be a great family medicine doctor. Write a book for medical students going through tough times. Make Awesome Inc. live up to its name.

ABOUT ME

I want to explore the world and grow as a person...and avoid cliches. I really love seeing ideas happen. Especially ones that are scalable and can affect lots of people, hence I really like the idea of running a business.

PHILOSOPHY

rule #17 bring the fun
rule #4 always do something awesome over something not awesome
rule #76 no excuses, play like a champion

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I've surfed with a handful of people at this point - finding that it's the richest way to travel. I'm finally in a good place to host, so that's great!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I created a local couch tour in the fall of '05 during my last semester of my MBA. I surfed a different friend's couch every week. Somehow, somebody told me about this site during that experience. Since then, I've surfed in DC (twice), California, & New Jersey.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I rode my bicycle from Canada to Mexico along the Pacific Coast. We brought a tent but only pitched it 3 times. There are nice people on the west coast. I ran an Ironman triathlon in Louisville, KY 8/12

Teach, Learn, Share

I surfed about 14 different couches & moved every week for a semester. I did this locally in Lexington while getting my MBA & really enjoyed it, as it allowed me to spend time with friends that I don't normally see as it all of a sudden became convenient for me to have dinner with them every night...because we lived together.

1. Do this. It deepened many relationships that semester.
2. If you are a little to tall for a couch (standard couches are just an inch or two short for me and I'm 5'10") then use the coffee table that is probably right in front of you to extend your feet all the way.
3. Rule of thumb - the fewer the couch cushions, the more comfortable the couch (assuming it is long enough that you don't have to bend your knees). I once surfed an 8 footer with a single cushion...THAT is the stuff dreams are made of!
4. Pullout couch beds have the bar. To solve that problem sleep on them sideways, and to support your feet that will be hanging off, see tip #2
