About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore. Smile. Share. Repeat.

ABOUT ME

A day without laughing is a wasted day. I love food, travelling, and my best friend/partner Jennifer. We have two young boys, born 2015 and 2017 who I can't help but adore.
I work for the state of Washington to promote recreational boating safety and have a 100 ton Captain's license.
Between September of 2006 and August of 2007, I travelled non-stop on a long solo trip. The journey included stops in Australia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, India, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, and Canada.
I've been told quite a few times that I'm "not like most Americans". I don't know what that means exactly, but I think I feel pretty good about it.

PHILOSOPHY

We each make the choice to either build up those around us, or break them down in order to make ourselves feel bigger. I choose option B.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Host and visit.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been hosted by people who made my travels into something wonderful that I NEVER could have put together on my own. Because of this, I try to pay it forward whenever possible.
I host through my partner's account (jennbug130) for simplicity's sake. Our home is just a mile or so from downtown Olympia. If you're in a tight spot give us a shout and we'll see what we can do to help.

Interests

Papa-hood, hiking, backpacking, climbing, scuba/free diving, wildlife-admiring, reading, futbol, beach volleyball, food, silliness and, my favorite: making Jennifer laugh.

Music, Movies, and Books

Dean Koontz, Where the Red Fern Grows (I've lost count of how many times I've read it), Lord of the Rings, Hitchiker's Guide to the Universe, Bill Bryson, the first five or so M. Night Shyamalan films, Ishmael , Paolo Bacigalupi,

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I walked with a pregnant russian woman through a huge, beautiful cemetery to count butterflies in Hamburg. Now come on, I MUST be the only person alive who can say that!
But also: Angkor Wat, dolphins in bioluminescence (the most beautiful thing I have ever seen), and I hung over the edge of Half Dome mountain in Yosemite national park in California. Oh, and if you search around, you may or may not find video footage of me punching a critically endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal. In my defense, she was molesting my diving customer...

Teach, Learn, Share

If you're in India and the ricksaw driver says the metre is broken, he's lying!
Whenever possible, plan your flights westward, rather than eastward. It's easier to adjust to time differences.
Horses can't vomit and cow-tipping is impossible (they wake up!).

What I Can Share with Hosts

Local knowledge, logistical support, a meal or three, and possibly accomodations.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Cambodia, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, India, Laos, Mexico, Myanmar, New Zealand, Poland, Thailand

Countries I’ve Lived In
